On January 23 2003, the second anniversary of the deception of the "self-immolation," Dafa practitioners from a city in Northeast China successfully broadcast a program about the truth of the "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" on cable TV in a residential area, exposing the deception of the incident. The program lasted more than 30 minutes, covered all the channels on cable TV, and caused an enormous sensation among the people. Everyone was talking about it, and the evil persecutors are extremely frightened at the revealing of the truth. The city's Public Security Bureau is panic-stricken and is planning to carry out mass arrests of Dafa practitioners soon.

The International Education Development (IED) made an official statement at the United Nations on August 14, 2001, "...The regime points to a supposed self-immolation incident in Tiananmen Square on January 23, 2001 as proof" to slander Falun Gong. "However, we have obtained a video of that incident that in our view proves that this event was staged by the government. We have copies of that video available for distribution."

If we slow the video down, we can see clearly that Liu Chunling died on the spot after she was struck on the head by a blunt object from someone behind her. Wang Jindong, the main player in the incident, behaved even more strangely: when he was "engulfed in flames," he was moving his body in a relaxed manner without the slightest pain. Later when he was sitting there, being burned charcoal black, his hair, the most easily burned part of his body, remained untouched, and the plastic bottle filled with gasoline earlier remained in perfect condition between his legs, as if it had been placed there as a stage prop.

A reporter from the Washington Post went to the hometown of Liu Chunling to conduct an independent investigation, and he revealed in his report published in the Washington Post that Liu used to make a living as a hostess in a nightclub and that none of her neighbours ever saw Liu practise the Falun Gong exercises.

In view of the incident being full of loopholes and fallacies, the newly founded "World Organisation to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong" pointed out on January 22 that the so-called self-immolation in Tiananmen Square that happened two years ago has directly caused several deaths, in which the victims died in a most tragic way; that the incident has been widely propagated by Jiang's regime, triggering an escalation of the persecution that has claimed several hundreds, possibly thousands, of lives; and that they have therefore established the International Committee to Investigate the "Tiananmen Square Self-Immolation" and declared that the investigation would start immediately on the day of the formation of the committee. The first batch of litigants and parties concerned was published on January 23 as a witness name list.
