Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhang Jun, 65, Forced to Leave Home to Avoid Arrest and Torture

Ms. Zhang Jun began practising Falun Gong in 1993 and benefited from it enormously. She firmly believes in Falun Gong and the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, thus the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) has persecuted her numerous times. Her younger son developed a mental illness after being brutally beaten. Most recently, in July 2011, 610 Office agent Liang Shibin and six plainclothes officers broke into Ms. Zhang's home, forcing her to find another place to live. Her family was also harassed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials.

Ms. Zhang's personal account follows:

During the big Chinese Communist Party conference in March of 2007, I was listed as “Wanted” by the Chongqing Jiangbei District 610 Office, so I left home. When they could not find me, they took my younger son to try to get him to tell them where I was. My son did not know where I had gone, so the police savagely beat him and he subsequently developed mental illness and was hospitalised in the Cuntan Mental Hospital in the Jiangbei District.

On October 19th, 2007, at around 9 a.m., I went to the Shapingba District Industry and Commerce Bank to withdraw my pension. I was arrested by a Jiangbei District 610 Office agent (I did not know at the time that police departments have contact with all the banks) and was held in the Wangxiangtai Brainwashing Centre in the Yubei District, Chongqing.

The brainwashing centre had been set up by the Chongqing 610 Office. I refused to write the guarantee statement that they demanded, so from midnight to 5 a.m., the guards tortured me with electric batons. The electric shock destroyed my internal organs and I developed tachycardia, heart palpitations, generalised weakness and liver pain. I vomited blood daily and soon noticed that broken glass was being mixed into my food.

I exercised every night and refused to renounce my practice as they repeatedly demanded. 610 Office agent Liang Shibin (50 years old, responsible for persecuting Dafa practitioners) took me to the Chongqing Zishan Mental Hospital for further mistreatment. I ran out of the hospital, but, since I was not familiar with the area, I was arrested again by the 610 Office and held in Wangxiangtai Brainwashing Centre. When I still refused to renounce Falun Gong, officer Liang Shibin sentenced me to two years of forced labour. In the labour camp I was finally coerced to renounce Falun Gong in writing, which I revoked later.

When I was released from the labour camp, the Dashiba Neighbourhood 610 Office director, Li Feng, along with a psychiatrist and a nurse from the Jiangling factory, attempted to take me to the factory mental hospital. My brother, who is in his 80s, absolutely refused their involvement and took me home.

The plainclothes agents and residential committee staff came to harass me often. On the morning of July 11th, 2011, five officers from the Dashiba Police Station in the Jiangbei District, Chongqing, came to my home attempting to deceive me into opening the door and going to the police station with them. I refused to open the door. That afternoon, the Jiangbei 610 Office director, Liang Shibin, and 6 policemen came to my home again. My younger son, age 32, refused to open the door. I was forced to leave home and became destitute. My younger son asked Liang Shibin, “Why do you want to arrest my mother? What kind of crime did she commit?” He replied, “She did not commit any crime, we just want to talk to her.”

The next morning, Liang Shibin again took 6 policemen in two police cars in an attempt to arrest me. Since I was not at home, they ordered people to take turns monitoring my home. My older son, age 40, went to get the monthly allowance for my younger son as usual, but the residential committee refused to issue it. The 610 Office had ordered the Dashiba Neighbourhood Office and Residential Community to allow only me and no one else to pick up the allowance for my son, in an attempt to catch me.

The residential committee also contacted the Cuntan Mental Hospital in the Jiangbei District where my younger son was hospitalised. They notified the hospital that my son could only be released to me. No one else could take my son home.
