Mr. Wei Danquan is a Falun Gong practitioner from the city of Shanhaiguan in Hebei Province. He has been unlawfully imprisoned at Baoding Forced Labour Camp with the No.2 Team. Because of torture, Mr. Wei has been coughing up blood, but the guards continue to handcuff him to the radiator and force him to perform heavy labour.
On the afternoon of September 26th, Mr. Wei's mother, wife and elderly aunt tried to visit him, but the camp staff stopped them before they even entered the camp's courtyard. After a while, a disciplinary staff member named Liu Qingyong (male) and the captain of the No.2 Team named Wei (male) came to talk to them. Mr. Wei's 70-year-old mother asked to see her ill son. The rest of the family explained that Mr. Wei is critically ill and that his illness is infectious, but the camp authorities still refused to release him.
Liu Qingyong told them, "The 17th National People's Congress is about to begin. We have received orders that there will be no visits or releases." Liu told them that they didn't want to accept Wei Danquan when he was brought to the camp. However, Zhang Deyue from Shanhaiguan asked the 610 Office1 of Hebei Province as to how to proceed. He was told to imprison Wei Danquan. Wei Danquan is having to get IV fluids daily to sustain his life.
Another practitioner from Shanhaiguan, Mr. Deng Wenyang, was unlawfully arrested on September 26th, 2007 and died as a result of torture at Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp about ten days later. Because of this, Mr. Wei's family fears for his life.
Mr. Wei was arrested at home on August 15th, 2007 without a warrant being presented. He was taken to Baoding Forced Labour Camp on August 17th.
