After participating in Edinburgh Arts Festival Cavalcade and winning the 1st Prize for best float in the Community section, a portion of UK Falun Gong practitioners and practitioners from France and Ireland held an anti-torture parade in Edinburgh, exposing the cruel persecution and the brutal torture that Falun Gong practitioners suffer in China.
Before the parade began, the UK Falun Dafa Association held a press conference. Former UK diplomat Lord Thurlow, European Friends of Falun Gong Chairman John Dee, and Falun Gong practitioners who have suffered in China made speeches condemning Jiang Zemin’s persecution of Falun Gong and calling on China to stop the persecution immediately. The parade started at twelve noon. Three female practitioners carried big placards which read “Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance” and walked at the very front. The following practitioners held banners saying “Falun Dafa”, “Stop Persecuting Falun Gong” and “Bring Jiang Zemin to Justice”. Close behind was a trailer displaying all the torture equipment. On top of the car sat a female practitioner meditating and demonstrating the fifth exercise. A number of practitioners on the trailer simulated several different torture methods. Behind the trailer female practitioners wearing white held portraits of practitioners who had been tortured to death. At the back were practitioners holding banners with anti-torture inscriptions.
During the activity, the rain fell heavily. Although the pedestrians in the rain were hurrying with their own business, lots of people still were willing to accept Falun Gong leaflets. The parade started from Market Street, passing through Waverley Bridge, Prince’s Street and ending at Castle Terrace. It lasted for one and a half hours. After enjoying the beauty that Falun Gong brought on the previous day, the citizens of Edinburgh witnessed the torture Falun Gong is suffering in China. This strong contrast allowed everyone to become more clear about the inhumane crimes that Jiang’s Regime has committed.
