Because of Czech President Vaclav Havel’s approaching visit to China, Czech Falun Gong practitioners organised a Press Conference outside Prague Castle, the seat of the President's Office in Hradcanske Square. Its purpose was to draw attention to the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and appeal to the President to begin a dialogue with the Chinese Government’s representatives on the topic of Human Rights.
Several VIPs joined the appeal with a statement: “We join the appeal to stop the persecution of Falun Gong members and other prisoners of conscience in China and call on the President Mr Vaclav Klaus to unambiguously express support to these people.“ This includes Tania Fischerová, Independent M.P. of the Czech Republic, and Svatopluk Karasek, Member of Parliament of the Czech Republic
On the day of the press conference, Falun Gong practitioners were invited to appear on BBC Radio where the listeners could hear in a live broadcast that there is Genocide occurring in China against 100 million innocent people who practise Falun Gong, a cultivation method that emphasises the values of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. A practitioner also brought attention to the fact that the Chinese Government puts a great amount of financial resources into the persecution of Falun Gong and expressed the opinion that for this reason it is not morally correct to do business with China at this time.
A reporter and photographer from the Czech Press Agency CTK come to the press conference. The reporter from the magazine Novy Prostor, who is aware of the cruelty and scope of the persecution of Falun Gong, also came and offered to the other reporter one copy of their magazine that discusses the persecution of Falun Gong in detail. She told him he could gather some information from this material.
Local policemen were very interested in what was going on outside the Prague Castle and asked us for information material. They learned what Falun Gong is, what is taking place in China and were very shocked by the attitude of the Chinese Government's actions.
