On March 16th and 17th 2004, French MP of City Major Christina Jeanjean and Ile-de-France MP of Les Hauts-de-Seine Roger Karoutchi, sent letters to Falun Gong practitioners expressing their concern about the French police’s misconduct towards Falun Gong practitioners at the time of Hu Jintao’s visit during Chinese New Year and asking the French government for a strict investigation.
Christina Jeanjean said in her letter, “Sorry for this kind of irritation and I deeply apologise.” She went on to mention that during Hu Jintao’s visit, the police were given incorrect information.
Roger Karoutchi said in his letter, “The issue you stated is extremely serious, so I will definitely ask the French government to allow the facts to be openly discussed.”
At the end of their letters, both of the French MPs wished Falun Gong practitioners well and indicated their highest regard and respect”
