Two Older Female Practitioners from Huludao City Arrested By Police from Shaguotun Township Police Station

On the morning of May 22nd, 2007, two Dafa practitioners, Xiao Shusheng and Wei Mingzhen, from Nanpiao District, Huludao City, Liaoning Province were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in the market at Shaguotun Township when they were arrested by police from the Shaguotun Township Police Station. The same day, police from Shaguotun Township Police Station and Zhao Township Police Station, dressed in plain clothes, and together with workers from the residential community, drove a truck with a crane arm to Ms. Xiao's apartment. Ms. Xiao lives on the fourth floor, but was not at home. They used the crane arm on the truck to access the balcony of Ms. Xiao's home. They broke into the door, and went inside. They searched her home and took several Dafa books and CDs.

At the same time, police also searched Ms. Wei's home.

The two Dafa practitioners were then put into the Xingcheng Detention Centre. It has already been over a month since their arrests.

About a week ago, Ms. Xiao was officially arrested. Ms. Xiao's husband tried to visit his wife many times but he was always refused by the police. Ms. Wei's mother-in-law has gone to Nanpiao Police Station to enquire about Ms. Wei's situation, and Ms. Wei's son also went to the detention centre to see his mother, but they were also turned away. Every time, the detention centre would say, "The case handling institution (Shaguotun Police Station) is in charge of this and we will only let you visit if they write a letter or give us a call." The Shaguotun Police Station told the families to go ask the Nanpiao District Police Station. The police from Nanpiao District Police Station said, "If it were a murderer or arsonist, maybe you could find someone to help you, but for Falun Gong, no one dares to help you." Facing these different institutions' excuses and their continual passing of the responsibility to each other, the families couldn't resolve the issue.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Xiao Shusheng is 51 years old. When she was 7 years old, she developed encephalitis and it left her with long term problems. Her personality was very strange and everyone in her family had to be cautious around her. After she got married, she often got angry with her husband and became irrational, causing them to fight a lot. In 1998 she began cultivating Falun Dafa and her personality completely changed. She became very kind and gentle and no longer got mad at her family members. Her family environment also became very calm. She was always happy and all her family members supported her cultivation in Falun Dafa. Shortly afterwards, Jiang Zemin, former leader of China, began to persecute Falun Gong. Under the pressure, her family tried to convince her not to practise any longer, but she said that as human beings, one cannot give up morality and conscience. She said it was Dafa that changed her, therefore she would not abandon Dafa.

In March 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa, a right guaranteed by the Chinese Constitution. She was arrested and detained for 15 days. Around the time of the Dragon Boat Festival in 2001, she was arrested and sentenced to three years of forced labour for writing "Falun Dafa is Good" on a wall. On the ninth day, she was sent home because she did not pass the camp's physical exam. In June 2002, on the day before the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) "Sixteenth Conference," she was suddenly arrested while going somewhere, and was sentenced to three years of forced labour. She was held at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City. In the forced labour camp, the guards attempted to "transform¹" her. They tied up her hands and legs and she was tortured very badly. She was also forced to do slave labour, including peeling garlic. Twenty practitioners stayed in one room with several sacks of garlic soaked in water and the smell was awful. The practitioners' hands were affected by the garlic juices and their skin was peeling off. Shortly afterwards, Ms. Xiao was so brutally tortured that she became very thin and emaciated. In August 2004, a tumour was discovered in her stomach. It wasn't until she was dying that they finally released her.

Dafa practitioner Ms. Wei Mingzhen is 52 years old. She retired from Shaguotun Machinery Repairing Factory. When her son was 6 years old, her husband became psychotic and has still not recovered. Several years ago Ms. Wei developed many diseases. She became paralysed due to pancreatic inflammation and was hospitalised for six months. Because of the numerous diseases, she was always in extreme pain. When the gastric disease worsened, she was in so much pain that she rolled around in bed all day. She had neurasthenia, which often prevented her from sleeping. On one occasion, she had taken too many sleeping pills and didn't wake up for several days. She also had heart disease, which caused her to frequently lose consciousness. Later, she was also diagnosed with late-stage skin cancer, which was extremely painful. Part of her facial skin was necrotic and festered. Her entire body was swollen and her throat was so swollen that she could not even talk or drink water. The last time she was hospitalised, the doctor told her family: "She won't live very long." Ms. Wei had thought about killing herself several times. Once she took 100 sleeping pills but wasn't successful in killing herself. Another time, she gave her child to someone else and wanted to commit suicide, but when her coworkers found out, they all tried to persuade her not to kill herself. Thus she gave up the thought and got her child back.

In 1996, Ms. Wei was fortunate enough to begin cultivating Falun Gong. Within six months, she was completely healthy. Her skin became fair and she could walk very easily. Her entire family was astonished by Dafa's magical power. Ms. Wei swore to be steadfast in her Dafa cultivation. Her entire family supported her cultivating Falun Dafa. Now, however, she is being held in a detention centre. In order to make a living, Ms. Wei's daughter-in-law has to sell melon seeds in the market, despite the fact that she is seven months pregnant. Ms. Wei's 70-year-old mother-in-law is left alone at home. Her entire family is in a very difficult situation.
