On May 29th, 2006 UK Falun Gong practitioners participated in the Lord Mayor’s Parade in Oxford. This is the fourth time that Falun Gong took part in the parade, which was mainly made up of local charities. To music composed by practitioners, the parade crossed Oxford city centre. Four golden letters reading “Falun Dafa” on the banner glittered under the morning sun. The people smiled and applauded along the way.
Two banners, which read “Falun Dafa” and “The World Needs Truthfulness, Compassion & Forbearance”, led the way. Two sets of lion dancers followed, along with fan dancers. Next was a banner in Chinese and English, “Falun Dafa brings health to millions of people around the world”, and many colourful flags. Passing Cornmarket Street and High Street as well as numerous colleges, the parade ended at South Park.
The host set up many stands in the park as well as a playground for children. Falun Gong practitioners had a stand to introduce Falun Gong and to distribute leaflets and paper lotus flowers.
In the afternoon, practitioners demonstrated Falun Gong exercises for people in the park. Two playful lions performed dances. Female practitioners in colourful costumes also presented dances.
The weather in Oxford that day was very unpredictable, sunshine mixed with rain. During the whole parade, however, it was fine and clear. In the afternoon, the rain held off during the exercise demonstration and the dances. When the performance ended it poured for quite a while.
The Lord Mayor of Oxford expressed his gratitude for Falun Gong practitioners’ participation, which had greatly enriched the city of Oxford.
