On October 24th and 25th, RFI (Radio France Internationale) broadcast an interview conducted with former Chinese police officer, Hao Fengjun and former Chinese diplomat, Chen Yonglin regarding the persecution against Falun Gong and human rights issues in China. RFI’s programme “France and Europe”, which was broadcast to Asia on October 24th, covers the first part of the interview.

Today is October 24th. The Epoch Times held a press conference in its foreign media reception centre located on the riverbank of the Seine River in Paris. Speakers for this press conference were Mr. Chen Yonglin and Mr. Hao Fengjun, who quit the identities of Chinese diplomat and police officer several months ago in Australia.

Chen Yonglin was a political consul and first-class secretary associated with the Chinese Embassy in Australia. Hao Fengjun was a 610 office agent in Tianjin Public Security Bureau.

Their speeches today exposed human right issues and corruptions in China. They also answered questions asked by the French media. After the press conference, they accepted an interview with the reporter.

Mr. Hao introduced the situation of the persecution that the 610 Office has inflicted on Falun Gong.
Hao: Many officials in China’s police organisation and Domestic Security Bureau, including myself, are forced to persecute Falun Gong. They don’t understand the truth about Falun Gong. Since these officials are promoted from the police system, most of them have to deal with are rogues and criminals. Falun Gong practitioners, Christians, Catholics are different from these criminal offenders.

The second reason why I said they did not understand the truth is that after thirty two western Falun Gong practitioners displayed and held Falun Gong banners in the Tiananmen Square in late 2001, we were forced to spread a large number of documents, claiming Falun Gong employed westerners with big money.
Reporter: Referring to westerners, do you mean foreigners?

Hao: Yes, westerners are foreigners, white and black included. We were told by the Chinese government that these foreigners were highly paid to display banners in Tiananmen Square. However, when I came to Australia and met one of the westerners who went to Tiananmen Square, I started realising the truth. I asked him when he started practising Falun Gong. He said it was 1996. He did go to Tiananmen Square in 2001 because he can be seen in the photo. The Chinese government distorted the facts, and repeated the lie many times. In the end, the lie became almost like the truth.

Some Chinese officials aggressively persecuted dissidents simply for personal benefits and promotion. I witnessed how the police beat up Sun Ti, who is a Falun Gong practitioner. It is the first time for me to see how the police torture Falun Gong practitioners. Before then, I didn’t believe the brutality of the persecution. I used to think the wounds on the legs and backs of Falun Gong practitioners were falsified by painting. Sun Ti was a female in her fifties. I have never seen the back of a perfectly normal woman turned black or purple because of beating like her. This event caused me to think a lot.

Reporter: Are Chinese people aware of the beating?

Hao: No, they don’t know. Why did I use Sun Ti as an example? It is because after Sun Ti was beaten, a policewoman and I were asked to apply ointment on her. A trial would not be conducted before the trauma was cured. Besides, all of the media in China are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. It is impossible to freely report these negative events.

Reporter: Both of you were insiders from the Chinese government. Based on your experience, do you think the Chinese government will continue its suppression policy against Falun Gong? How long?
Hao: I don’t know how long the Chinese government will be capable of upholding their policy against Falun Gong. However, I do suspect how long this government can sustain itself.

Reporter: Are you saying that as long as the Chinese Communist government sustains, it won’t change its persecution policy towards Falun Gong?

Hao: Yes, basically I think so. However, I believe this will not last for long.

Reporter: Chen Yonglin and Hao Fengjun attended a press conference held at the European Parliament regarding human rights issues in China. Mr. Chen would like to provide an introduction of what has undergone over there.

Chen: I was invited by Mr. Charles Tannock, Vice Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the European Parliament to provide a testimony about China’s human rights issues. This event appeared to draw emphasis from the Chinese communist government, which applied pressure on Mr. Tannock one day before the testimony. The Chinese communist government indicated their intention of coming to the European Parliament to deliver a “true human rights situation” in China. On the next day, seven people were dispatched to join the testimony. Among them, three were Chinese diplomats accredited to the European Union, two were reporters associated with the Xinhua News Agency, and one with the China Young Daily.

Mr. Tannock made a statement to declare his strong stands on human rights. He said the European Union will keep in contact with China, but China needs to make improvement in human rights. I added, “As the mouthpiece of the Chinese communist government, the Xinhua News Agency should provide a news report about this event in its publication in China. I hope the report can accurately and objectively quote Mr. Tannock’s words. Not only should the report mention the European Union wishes to maintain contacts with China, it should also cover the conversations about human rights.” I also said in the testimony that sometimes the Xinhua News Agency is also responsible for collecting intelligence for the Chinese communist government. My statement made the reporters from the Xinhua News Agency embarrassed. After the press conference, one of the reporters approached me privately and complained about my statement. I told him that what I said is true and that my statement was not directed against him individually. Instead, it was directed against the Chinese communist government. Pressure is needed to drive changes in the Chinese communist regime.

Reporter: As a diplomat accredited to foreign countries, you should be familiar with all of this. Was it part of your job in the past?

Chen: Yes, this is why I have a very good understanding about them. The press conference was organised in a form like a hearing. The Chinese communist regime put extraordinary emphasis on this event, and dispatched three diplomats to attend the press conference. After my oral interactions with the Xinhua News Agency, the three Chinese officials didn’t say a word. Actually, they didn’t have to keep silent. They could still speak out. However, they didn’t dare to. I know perfectly why, they were afraid of saying wrong words and exposing mistakes that I might take advantage of. They knew all of the so-called “real” human rights situation in China was faked.
