Falun Dafa Practitioner Kang Zhiguo Tortured to Death in Shanxi Province First Prison

Mr. Kang Zhiguo, a practitioner of Falun Dafa, was employed by the Shanxi Province Mining Bureau. He was tortured in the Shanxi Province First Prison (also called the Jinzhong Prison). He was brutally beaten by prison guards with wooden clubs, which caused paralysis and the inability to stand upright. He died on May 20, 2005 inside the prison.

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Kang Zhiguo was sentenced to three years in prison in late 2002. He was serving his term in the Jinzhong Prison, located in Qi County. Because he refused to accept brainwashing, Mr. Kang was viciously tortured by prison guards and other prisoners. The percentage of Falun Dafa practitioners accepting brainwashing in this particular prison has been very low. In July 2004, as directed by the 610 Office (1), the prison undertook a new policy, known as "Hundred Days Attacking," to torture steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners by using brutal beatings administered by hardcore prisoners, such as killers, and robbers.

During this period, Mr. Kang Zhiguo was beaten by prisoners with heavy clubs until he lay paralysed on the floor and could not stand up for a long time. Under these unrelenting tortures, Mr. Kang, against his will, wrote a statement refuting his faith and belief in Dafa.

Another Falun Dafa practitioner, Mr. Liu Zhibin from Lingxiu County, was tortured to death on July 20, 2004. His family was told that he died of a heart attack. However, his family found that his body was covered with wounds, his wrists still showing the bruises from tight handcuffs. His body showed signs of electric shocks and burns from electric batons that were too horrible to look at.

In May 2005, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Kang Zhiguo declared that all of his written statements renouncing the practice, made under duress, were null and void. This infuriated the prison guards. At the end of May, his family received a notice that he died of an illness on May 20, 2005.
