Ms. Jia Cuiying was 61 years old. She was a resident of Jishou City, Hunan Province. In Late 2001, she was sentenced to a 5-year prison term without legal cause and detained at Hunan Province Women's Prison. Ms. Jia did not renounce her belief and actively clarified the truth to people at the prison. Once she exposed the lies when she was forced to watch a video programme, slandering Falun Dafa.

In March 2003, Ms. Jia was transferred to the Group for the Senior and Handicapped. Because she taught other inmates to study the Falun Dafa teachings and practise the exercises, the persecutors locked her in a confinement cell for 9 days.

After Ms. Jia began to cultivate Falun Dafa, all the diseases she suffered disappeared. When she was first detained, she was in good health. Yet, because of the several years of unlawful detention and persecution and cruel mental and physical torture, she became ill again. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2004. She was released for medical treatment in June 2004. On October 20, 2004, Ms. Jia passed away.

During the past several years, the guards and inmates at Hunan Province Women's Prison (located in Changsha City) tortured practitioners cruelly. They used every conceivable inhuman method to brutally torture practitioners. The guards in the "Education and Reformation Group" are especially vicious. They deprive practitioners of sleep, put bloody paper towels (with menstrual blood) into practitioners' mouth, hang them up in the air by the handcuffs, tie them up with ropes, make them stay in the hot sun, beat them, take away their fundamental human rights, force them into slave labour, assign excessive work loads, deny visiting rights, and confiscate all mail. The guards said, "There is a new rule for Falun Gong practitioners. Beating you to death will be recorded as your having committed suicide."
