One of our fellow practitioners is a young man. One day, he came to the Chinese Embassy in Edinburgh to peacefully appeal as usual. The peaceful appeal at the Embassy has run for two hours every day for the last three years. It has grown from just one practitioner in the beginning to a group of practitioners each day. We usually do the exercises on the street beside the Embassy where there is a one metre high iron pillar that we tie our display board to. One side of the display board reads "Stop Persecuting Falun Gong" and the other side displays pictures of the persecution.
One day, after this practitioner tied up the display board he began to practise the Falun Gong exercises. As soon as he finished the first set of the exercises, he opened his eyes to see a Chinese person looking at the display. He immediately took out a leaflet and handed it to the person, saying politely, ‘Sir, please take a look.’ Then he started to tell him about the worldwide spread of Falun Dafa and how the Chinese media slanders Falun Gong. All of a sudden, the Chinese man rudely interrupted him and said angrily, "Why don’t you believe in Christianity?" The practitioner explained to him patiently that Falun Gong is not a religion and told him some about the practice.
The man stopped him again and said, "Why don’t you go back home and practise at home? Do you know how we Chinese lose face when you practise here?" The practitioner remained calm and explained that countless practitioners have been arrested and beaten up for not giving up their belief, and that some have even been sentenced to imprisonment without trial. In addition to that, some corrupt elements in the government employ the whole country’s media to export lies abroad to slander Falun Gong. This behavior is what really loses face for the Chinese. On hearing that, the Chinese person started shouting, "Do you know that a lot of foreigners laugh at you?!" Our practitioner corrected him, "Do you know our peaceful appeal has received support from many passers-by? The local people who live nearby send tea, food and letters to us, and even more people send their encouragement for our persistence. With more and more people learning the truth, we are getting more and more supporters." The Chinese man left before the practitioner finished, he was foul-mouthed and tore up the leaflet. After he walked around the Embassy, he went into the building.
The practitioner described the Chinese person’s behaviour to us afterward. After some discussion, we realised that this was the Consul of the Embassy in Edinburgh. As he often comes and goes by car, we seldom see him. We were all shocked by his behavior, how could this kind of person be sent abroad as a diplomat?
