Icelandic Review: Luo Gan Protest

Nearly 150 people took part in a protest yesterday in Reykjavík at the House of Culture, while Luo Gan was having lunch with the Minister of Justice, Björn Bjarnason. There was also a large group of Chinese supporters who turned up to cheer, waving Chinese flags. With the two opposing groups together, in the end there was a small fracas.

Representatives of Amnesty International believe that the second group had been paid by the Chinese Embassy to obscure protestors against Luo Gan.

Several individuals and associations have filed charges against [Luo] Gan for crimes against humanity. According to Bjarnason, the Icelandic government will look into the charges.

Dr. Li Shao is one of those pressing charges. His sister-in-law was arrested and sent to a prison camp without trial and has endured severe torture. A journalist from the [Icelandic newspaper] 'Morgunbladid', who asked Gan a question about human rights, was surrounded by Chinese security guards immediately and transported from the premises.
