Last Wednesday morning, six practitioners of Falun Gong - a cultivation practice from China and around the world - filed a lawsuit against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin and two other important political figures on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes of torture. The federal justice will decide whether or not to accept the case. The attorney for the plaintiffs, Georges-Henri Beauthier, estimated that the federal justice may declare its position in mid September. Falun Gong was first taught in the early 1990s. Several years later, ten thousand Falun Gong practitioners held a demonstration near the party centre in Beijing; the movement was banned in August 1999. Afterwards, the practitioners became the victims of a brutal persecution, even after human rights observers proved the existence of this persecution.
