Rescue our Friend and Teacher, Liu Shan

Liu Shan, male, was born in 1970. He is a Japanese language lecturer at the Dalian Foreign Language College.

He is currently suffering from persecution in China because he is Falun Gong practitioner. Liu Shan began to practise Falun Gong in July 1998, and after going to appeal to the Dalian local government on the 20 July 1999, he was closely monitored by the college authorities. They forbade him from contacting other practitioners either inside or outside the college. The college authorities also forced him to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong by promising him the chance to leave and go abroad. The college authorities also threatened his parents to try to force him to stop practising Falun Gong.

After July 2000, Liu Shan still persisted in practising Falun Gong, and clarified the truth about Dafa both inside and outside the college. The college in turn attempted to look for a reason to punish or fire him. They eventually joined forces with the police to arrest him.

On the 9 July 2001, a group of police officers burst into Liu Shan’s dormitory and kidnapped him without explanation. Since this time, his whereabouts are unknown and knowledge about his wellbeing is also unknown.

From sources inside the college, Liu’s position in the college was terminated on the 9 July and the college decided not to give him another position after this date.

The chief of the security department in the college, Yang Shou stated that “Liu Shan would have to be sent to a labour camp within half a year!” and that Yang had “collected materials” among Liu’s students, who are also Dafa practitioners, of how they cheated several times. Liu Shan was recognised as a good teacher in the college, and was very respected by his students. These acts have caused public discontentment amongst the students.

Appeal from Qi Luyi, a Chinese student residing in Germany, to rescue her Former Colleague, Liu Shan

Liu Shan is my friend and former colleague. He obtained Dafa in 1998 and was a volunteer teacher of the Falun Gong exercises at the practise site at Dalian Foreign Language College.

Liu had graduated from this college with a degree in the Japanese language and the college employed him because of his excellent grades. He had worked at the college for 10 years before being kidnapped [in July 2001]. He was liked by his colleagues and students because of his wide range of interests, his professionalism and his cheerful character. One of his colleagues mentioned that since July 2001, no-one has heard about his whereabouts. It is not known which prison he has been placed into or what his current situation is.

Everyone is concerned about him and hope that he gets back his freedom as soon as possible.
