On September, 22nd, 2009, officers of the Security Department of Chengdou Southwest Jiaotong University violently arrested an over 60-year-old Falun Gong practitioner when he was explaining the facts about Falun Gong to a young man. Following is his report: "One of the policemen yelled, Beat him! We have nothing to be afraid of! Thus, they beat me badly with punches and kicks. I was beaten black and blue, and my face was bleeding. I couldn't move or breathe, and was lying on the ground. They tied up my hands with string, causing my hands to swell from the blood restriction."

Ms. Liu Ronghua was arrested on September, 23rd, 2009. She is being detained in Yaojia Detention Centre. Those in charge didn't allow her family to visit her. Police found her ex-husband and acquired some useful information and "evidence" on Ms. Liu from him, planning to further persecute her. Ms. Liu is a lecturer and well-respected in the field of education in Dalian City. Because she lost her job due to the persecution and was forced to divorce her husband, she has relied on the rent of the house that her ex-husband left her, and has never borrowed money to survive.

On October 20th, 2009, the Qingpu District Court in the Huaian City, Jiangsu Province held a trial for Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Chao following his arrest for possessing Falun Gong books and materials used for exposing the persecution. His wife, Ms. Zheng Hongxia, submitted a plea of "not guilty" in his defence. While Ms. Zheng was preparing to defend her husband, court personnel openly refused to provide her with the indictment paperwork and the charges for which he was being prosecuted. Before and during the trial, the prosecutor Feng Jiandong was disrespectful to her and even threatened her.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Shaodong was sent to a brainwashing centre by police. His legs were beaten severely and broken. He was sentenced to three years in a forced labour camp. Police claimed that they had found Falun Gong materials in Chen Shaodong's home. Later, at his wife's request, they allowed Mr. Chen to be released for medical treatment. However, the staff members refused to release him, with the excuse that he had not been "transformed".

In December 2008, Nong'an County Court conducted a "secret trial" against seven Falun Gong practitioners without notifying their families. On March 27th, 2009 the court used the same tactic and pronounced judgement against them. The practitioners did not agree with the verdict and jointly appealed to Changchun Intermediate Court. Practitioners in Nong'an County and the family members of the seven practitioners hired 14 lawyers to defend them. Presently, the court wants to pronounce a judgement without trial, and it claims that "There is no need to follow court procedures regarding Falun Gong issues."

Mr. Ge Kun was arrested on July 9th, 2008. He was imprisoned and tortured him for more than a year. Mr. Ge Kun, who was a very healthy young man, is now emaciated and physically weak. He went on hunger strike. After six days, he was force fed and tortured. He was tied to a cross for six days. The cross was supported with iron pipes. His hands were stretched out and strapped to the cross. He suffered excruciating pain. On October 18th, the Hanting District Court, Weifang City, Shandong Province sentenced Mr. Ge Kun to a nine year prison term.

On September 19th, 2009, Ms. Wang Yuxin, from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, was studying Falun Gong teachings with her husband, Mr. Sun Yufu, and over ten other practitioners. She was reported and arrested and is being held in the Jiamusi Detention Centre. Her husband was released after he passed out as a result of brutal beatings from the police officers. Mr. Sun is now suffering from heart problems, has palpitations and also insomnia. Because of his sickness he cannot walk down stairs. He is unable to take care of himself at home and requires his wife to look after him.

Police broke into a store on October 13th, 2009, run by Mr. Lu Peigen, a retired teacher from the Nonghe Town Middle School. They arrested Mr. Lu and confiscated several Falun Gong books, a DVD player, and other personal belongings. Mr. Lu's son, Lu Qianli, went to the Tonghe County Domestic Security Division to ask for his father's release on the morning of October 14th. Police detained him as well. Mr. Lu was abused and mistreated until he was vomiting and dizzy on October 15th. The Tonghe County People's Hospital diagnosed him with precursor to cerebral haemorrhage. Five to six officers also went to Mr. Lu's home three times to intimidate his wife and their eight-year-old daughter.

On October 15th, 2009, Tiexi District court in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province brought Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Lirong to trial based on false charges fabricated jointly by the local 610 Office and the National Security Group. The court did not inform Ms. Zhang's family of the trial. Guards were present the day of the trial as if something dangerous were going to happen. The street was closely monitored by police, who took photos of every person who passed by. The court successfully prevented Ms. Zhang's family from attending the trial, and also one of Ms. Zhang's lawyers from entering the court.

Ms. Yu Jingzhen, 65, has been practising Falun Gong for thirteen years. She is sixty-five years old and still in good health. On July 28th, 2009, Ms. Yu Jingzhen was picked up by police while she was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in Tonggou. That night, police ransacked Ms. Yu's home and confiscated some Falun Gong leaflets. Ms. Yu's family has been forbidden from seeing her, and they haven't received any information about her. They were not informed until recently that Ms. Yu's case had been sent to the Procuratorate of Sujiatun. Ms. Yu is now being framed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Ministry of Public Security, the Procuratorate and the court. Ms. Yu is now being held in the Shenyang Detention Centre.

On October 18th, 2009, Judge Mou Aiping brought Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Kong Qian to trial. Ms. Kong received a prison sentence of nine years. Ms. Kong was arrested on July 9th, 2009, and has been detained for more than a year. During her incarceration, this attractive young lady of good character was tortured to the point of emaciation. Not long after she was detained, she was tortured until her feet and legs were swollen. In order to protest the inhuman torture, she went on hunger strikes four times. She was then tied to a cross and subjected to inhuman tortures.

On October 9th, 2009, the Shulan Court in Jilin Province started the trial of Falun Gong practitioner Yang Junqi. Mr. Yang was innocent, and his attorney did a great job defending him. The trial made a mockery of Shulan Court. Before the trial started, police from the court called the attorney and said, "First, do not offer a 'not guilty' plea for Yang. Second, submit your defence transcripts to the Court." The attorney refused and said, "We are not going to co-operate with these kinds of illegal requests. I will not defend my client illegally. As for the defence transcripts, the trial hasn't started yet, how would I have any defence transcripts?" A person from the Legislative Department of Jilin Province said, "Let them (the court and the judge) save a little face. We need to be on the side of local government. Please follow their procedures and accept their sentence." The attorney refused.

On September 11th, 2009, Beijing Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Su Wei and Qing Xiuying were arrested by police and detained at Chaoyang Detention Centre. Currently, they are being held in a forced labour camp. Su Wei was sentenced to two years and six months of forced labour, and detained at the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp. Qing Xiuying was sentenced to two years of forced labour and also taken to the same labour camp. Between 2003 and 2009, Su Wei served two forced labour sentences, for a total of five years. This is her third time in a forced labour camp.

Ms. Liang Yuzhen was arrested by police from the Yayo Police Station on February 25th, 2009, as she was handing out Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution to people in the countryside. The police obstructed her lawyers from seeing her, and she was subsequently sentenced to four and half years in prison. She is still being held in the Heshan Detention Centre.

Ms. Liang Shaolin, 58, has suffered repeated persecution because she practises Falun Gong. On September 24th, 2009, 17 policemen from the Maoxi Police Department broke into her house by breaking down her double doors with an electric saw. She was then taken to the Maoming City Brainwashing Centre. Prior to this event, Liang Shaolin was severely tortured in the Shanshui Forced Labour Camp in Guangdong Province. In 1999, she was sentenced to a forced labour camp for two years because she went to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in Beijing. Because Ms. Liang refused to give up her practice of Falun Gong, she was not released until March 2005.

Since the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Feng Zhen has been arrested eight times and imprisoned for seven years due to his refusal to renounce Falun Gong. In December 2002, the Wuchang District Court sentenced him to 7 years in prison. He was then sent to the Quanqingkou Prison and then the Fanjiatai Prison in Hubei Province. On October 28th, 2008, Mr. Feng's prison term was up. He got his release certificate the day before. His family came to the prison gate at 5 a.m. on the day of his release. However, the prison officials refused to release him and told his family that he had left. After his family left, the officials from the 610 Office arranged to transport him to the Yangyuan Brainwashing Centre. He was subjected to brainwashing for a month.

Ms. Hu Qili was fired from her job for practising Falun Gong. For the same reason, she was detained and imprisoned in forced labour camps many times. On September 25th, 2009, the Jianshan District Court in Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province, held a trial for Ms. Hu. From her arrest to the trial, the justice system violated the law on numerous occasions. During her most recent arrest, police officers deceived her into opening her door by pretending to be fee collectors. Once inside her home, they searched it without a warrant and seized private property and cash. According to an insider, in early August, the Shuangyashan City 610 Office held a justice system meeting. They ordered the Jianshan Court to find Ms. Hu guilty and have the trial finished by September 15th, 2009.

Wei Maoxia and her family has suffered continuous harassment and persecution. Three police officers from Yanzhou Domestic Security Division in Shandong have repeatedly searched Wei Maoxia's home several times and have detained her on and off during August and September. Now Wei Maoxia and her son Zhang Chao are being mistreated in a detention centre. Wei Maoxia's is now homeless to avoid further persecution.

Ms. Wang Huijun, a fifty-eight-year-old Falun Gong practitioner and resident of Beian City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested and sent to Beian Detention Centre after she told people the facts about Falun Gong in Shengli Village in mid-June 2009. In late July she was sent to Harbin Forced Labour Camp for a term of one-and-a-half years.

Under orders from Liaoning Province Police Headquarters, Public Security police from Shenhe District Police Department in Shenyang City arrested more than ten Falun Gong practitioners in September 2009. Using techniques such as stalking, waiting in the dark, and using violence and a black hood, they arrested the practitioners. Practitioner Ms. Tu is now being held at the Shenyang Detention Centre, and Ms. Wang at a brainwashing centre called "Shenyang Legal Education School". Both of them started hunger strikes to demand their unconditional release.

Practitioner Ms. Xie Yanmin is a senior engineer for the Nanjing Fourteenth Research Institute. She was arrested at her hotel during a business trip to Beijing in August 2009. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials put special markings on practitioners' identification cards while they were replacing everyone's card. When Ms. Xie used her identification card to check in at the hotel, the police were notified. Soon after, police arrived at the hotel and ransacked her room. They found Falun Gong materials in her laptop. They took her away and her whereabouts are now unknown, only that she has been sentenced to two years at a forced labour camp in Beijing

On August 17th, 2009, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Yong was beaten by three local security police officers after they saw him distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. After they beat him, they took him to the Henggou Police Station. On August 18th, Henggou police officers and the Public Security Bureau of Xianan Police Department detained Mr. Li, who had already been tortured and had wounds all over his body, in the Xianan District Detention Centre. To protest the persecution, Mr. Li went on hunger strike. As a result of his silent protest, he was force-fed and sentenced to a forced labour camp for one year.

Ms. Zhu Hailing, a Falun Gong practitioner, and her three sisters from Yongji County in Jilin Province were arrested and their home ransacked on September 15th, 2009. Her three sisters were released, but Ms. Zhu was sentenced to one year of forced labour. Ms. Zhu's young brother, Mr. Zhu Boyuan, who is handicapped and bedridden, asked the police, "Do you have a search-warrant and the legal documents? If you don't, it is illegal for you to search our home." One of the police hit Mr. Zhu twice with a pillow.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Changping, a taxi driver from Jinzhou City in Liaoning Province, was arrested on July 15th, 2009, and on August 12th he was transferred to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. This was the third time he had been sent to a forced labour camp. His family demanded to see him, but were refused without reason. When Mr. Liu was imprisoned in Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp he was twice locked in solitary confinement and handcuffed all day to a wooden board. After long-term mistreatment, his entire body became covered with scabies, which was unbearable, and his blood pressure rose to 220. He also lost consciousness twice, was attacked with electric batons, and beaten while hung up by his handcuffs.

Mr. Wang Wenzhang is about 55 years old and comes from Fuhe Village in Liaoning Province. He owned a small department store in the village. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, the Wang family has been repeatedly persecuted by the authorities. In June 2009, Mr. Wang was taken away by the police. Three months later, according to reliable sources, he was sentenced to four years in prison by the Court of Tieling City.

Prior to China's National Day on October 1st, 2009, police officers from Binxian County, Helongjiang Province arrested nine practitioners within two days, and they were held in the No. 2 Binxian County Detention Centre. broke into Ms.Yao Chunrong's home, where practitioners had gathered to study Falun Gong teachings together. The police arrested Ms.Yao and four other practitioners. They also confiscated Ms. Yao's personal belongings, including Falun Gong books. All practitioners were then taken to the No. 2 Binxian County Detention Centre.

Ms. Zeng Lingwen, 74, is a retired professor of physics who taught at Jilin University. She was arrested repeatedly for being a Falun Gong practitioner and taken to the detention centre, the drug rehabilitation centre and the forced labour camp in Changchun City. In the middle of July 2009, officials from the Changjiu Road Police Station in Changchun City came to Ms. Zeng's house to make an "in-home investigation." Seeing Falun Gong materials in the house, the police began to search everything and took away her personal belongings including her pension money. The police subsequently took Ms. Zeng to the police station for further questioning.

After the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Mr. Dong, along with many other Falun Gong practitioners, went to the Office of Letters and Calls of the Chongqing Municipal government to appeal for Falun Gong. However, they were beaten by the police and thrown onto a truck. The police drove them to a desolate place where there were no bus stops and left them there. He was arrested and detained several times over the years. In September 2009, someone framed Mr. Dong. He was arrested by police and his home was searched. According to the police station, they had found several hundred copies of Falun Gong-related DVDs, Falun Gong books and materials. Mr. Dong is being held at the Shuangliu County Detention Centre without visitation rights. According to sources, his family are also placed under tight surveillance.

On September 19th, seven people from the Nantong City Police Department broke into a store in Rugao County owned by Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Chunyan. They arrested Ms. Liu, her husband Cai Xunming, and their son Cai Qiang. The family was detained at the Rugao Police Department. While the family was being held, over eighty policemen from Nantong Police Department and Rugao Police Department ransacked their home and confiscated Ms. Liu's computer, Falun Gong books, and two personal letters. Mr. Cai Xunming was held for four days and his son Cai Qiang for one day. Ms. Liu is still in custody at the Rugao County Police Station.

The national security police in Ji County, Tianjin City, worked with Dongerying Police Station to arrest the legless and mentally ill brother of practitioner Mr. Su Jianmin. They decided to put him in a forced labour camp for a year, but were unsuccessful in getting him admitted. Not able to find Mr. Su, they arrested his brother, who is not a Falun Gong practitioner, but the police arrested and detained him anyway.

Sixty-eight-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Shi Jinhua from Hengyang City, Hunan Province has been arrested by the police 13 times. The police have extorted over 10,000 yuan from her family and took over 5,000 yuan worth of property from her home. In detention, ten policemen with hard-sole leather shoes kicked and beat practitioners brutally. Ms. Shi was beaten so hard that she passed out on the ground for at least ten minutes. The police forced the practitioners to raise their hands, and beat their faces, bodies, feet, and back of their hands with wooden sticks, bamboo poles, and bamboo slabs.

Ms. Liu Yaxian is a school teacher and Falun Gong practitioner in Tumen City, Jilin Province. She disappeared a few days ago. People asked around and found out that she had been arrested by the city 610 Office and has been sent to the Tumen City First High School for brainwashing. On September 22nd, it was reported that Ms. Liu was detained in a student dorm opposite the high school. The Chinese Communist Party, in the name of national security, makes a point of arresting practitioners who believe in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance.

Police nabbed Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Shaolin and took her to the Maoming Brainwashing Centre in September 2009. Ms. Liang Shaolin was previously held at the labour camp and brainwashing centre nearly six years for her practising Falun Gong. During the arrest the police used an electric saw to break through the double doors. They broke the locks, arrested her, ransacked the place and confiscated cash, a computer and a bank deposit book.

On September 29th, 2009, a group of officers from the Yanliu Police Station in Tianjin City showed up at the front gate of Mr. Hao Yin's residence. They announced to his three daughters inside that they wanted to conduct a home search. When the girls (Xiaojing, Xiaoyan, and Xiaojiao) refused to open the front gate door, several officers repeatedly knocked on it while other officers climbed the front wall and menacingly threatened them. When the girls shouted out to their neighbours for help, the officers climbed down and left. The mother of the girls, Ms. Gao Yan'e, was reported for telling people about Falun Gong and later sentenced to three years in prison. Earlier this year, the girls' father, Mr. Hao Yin, was arrested without cause, had his home ransacked, and later received a forced labour sentence.

On September 18th, 2009, a group of policemen arrived at Dai Jianguo's home. They cut off his electricity, and when a family member came out to check the fuse, they rushed into his home and brutally beat him. When Mr. Dai's mother tried to stop them, she was also beaten. After the beating, the police handcuffed him, carried him downstairs into a waiting police car, and took him away. They also ransacked his home and took away many valuables. Mr. Dai is currently imprisoned in the Shili Detention Centre, Jiujiang City.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Wuhu was an outstanding civil servant. He was persecuted for his belief in Falun Gong and was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. On September 18th, 2009, police arrested Mr. Zhao at his home and took him to the Xiong County Public Security Bureau. They ransacked his home and confiscated two notebook computers and a printer. Later, Mr. Zhao was taken back to Anxin County and detained. Mr. Zhao had previously been arrested during the 2008 Olympics, and later fled his home when the local police tried to arrest him again. Mr. Zhao's mother while she was shopping and detained her in the Anxin County Detention Centre. Her family managed to get her released.

Because they practise Falun Gong, Ms. Wang Jinfeng and her husband have been tortured by Tian Guangquan and the other officers from the Hanbei Police Station, in Baoding City, Hebei Province. They have been harassed, arrested, and imprisoned, and their residence has been ransacked. Consequently, Ms. Wang and her husband were forced to become destitute and homeless to avoid further persecution. Seven years has passed, and their parents have also been harassed and threatened

On September 22nd, 2009, while Doctor Zhou Jun of the Rushan City People's Hospital in Shandong Province was working as usual in her office, a group of people came to her office, claiming they were from the Domestic Security Division and the Shangyejie Police Station. Without showing any IDs, they searched her desk, took her away, and put her in the Rushan Detention Centre. The police took her away because she told others that "Falun Gong is good." The police also forced her husband to go home with them and ransacked their place as well.

It has been one year and three months since 60-year-old Lanzhou Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Guifang was imprisoned in the Lanzhou City Law prison, actually a brainwashing centre at Gongjiawan. The brainwashing centre refused to release her because she would not renounce the practice and teachings of Falun Gong. Another practitioner, 65-year-old Mr Qian Shiguang, was detained several times and was sentenced to forced labour three times. He was tortured and his life was endangered several times. He was arrested in May 2005 again and was detained at the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre. He had been tortured for three years and on September 8th, 2008, he was persecuted to death .

Falun Gong practitioners and Hong Kong residents Ms. Li Yaohua and her daughter Ms. Zhang Zhibo are very likely to be prosecuted in a Shanghai court in the next few days. They have been held in the Xuhui Detention Centre for nearly four months on charges of "producing and distributing Falun Gong video CDs and booklets." Ms. Li's son, Mr. Zhang Zhiyuan, now a lecturer in the Dental Faculty of California University in Los Angeles, has called for public attention to his mother's case in an effort to stop the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from continuing with this unlawful prosecution.

Practitioners Mr. Liu Wei, about 50, Mr. Chen Zhengxian, about 65, and Ms. Guo Jianzhen, 52, were arrested by the State Security Office on September 25th, 2009. The officers ransacked Mr. Liu's home and took some of his personal belongings, including a computer. It is not clear where these practitioners are being held. An unconfirmed source said that the 610 Office had secretly established a brainwashing centre, so it is possible they are in Hanzhong City, Wuxiang Town.

Mr. Bao Yongsheng, Mr. Zhang Peixun, and Mr. Li Congfu were recently handed heavy prison sentences for practising Falun Gong. On September 23rd, 2009, police transferred the three practitioners from the Xilin Detention Centre to Jiamusi Prison. During his arrest, police beat Mr. Bao with a thick, wooden stick and a metal pipe. After dragging Mr. Bao outside into the freezing cold, they poured 12 buckets of ice cold water on him, then forced him to stand still until he lost consciousness several times. Police repeatedly kicked Mr. Zhang in the head until blood was streaming down his face.

Ms. Ma Yan, who currently resides in Japan, previously spent five years in prison for practising Falun Gong. Now, her father Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Ma Chaoyu, was arrested on September 10th, 2009. He is currently being held at the Fengtai District Detention Centre. Ms. Ma explained that during the eleven years that her father has been practising Falun Gong, he has always been very healthy, and that people who know him consider him a good person. Knowing firsthand how badly practitioners are tortured both physically and spiritually in state-run prisons, she is very worried for her father.

In November 2004, Mr. Zeng Zhaoqin was arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials and sent to a detention centre. This was his fourth arrest. After being detained for 28 days, Mr. Zeng was sentenced to one year of forced labour in the Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp, where he was beaten, forced to stand for long periods of time, and denied use of a toilet. Mr. Zeng was tortured until he developed a mental disorder and was unable to care for himself.

On September 18th, 2009, a court in Linghe District, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, convened a hearing for Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Lige. From information provided by an eye-witness, Ms. Wang, who was tortured to the point of being in critical condition, was carried into the courtroom. She fainted as soon as she sat down. Chief judge Zhou Jun hastily read the court verdict: four years in prison. Ms Wang was unconscious throughout the entire proceedings. The court didn't notify Ms. Wang' attorney, which was a clear violation of legal procedures, depriving her of her lawful rights and interests.

Mr. Gu is handicapped and walks with canes. When he learned Falun Gong in 1997, he tried to live according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and his health has improved tremendously. He makes a living by repairing mobile phones. He was arrested in July 2008 for explaining the facts about Falun Gong and was sentenced to a four-year term on January 12th, 2009. His father died from the stress he endured worrying about his son. Mr. Gu's mother has been left with the responsibility of two young grandsons, a 10-year-old and a 3-year-old, three acres of farmland and a debt of 20,000 yuan.

Ms. Hong Zhenyan was arrested five months ago when she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. During the arrest the police brutally beat Ms. Hong with rubber clubs. She was injured all over. She is still being held in a detention centre. Her family has gone there many times asking for her but has been refused. Another practitioner, Ms. Cong was beaten so badly during the arrest that she was in critical condition.

On September 19th, 2009, the home of Mr. Ma Xuejun was invaded by a large number of police. Multiple police vehicles surrounded his home. Prior to the invasion, his wife, Ms. Chuang Jing, and 14 other practitioners were arrested by officers. Ms. Chuang Jing and nine other practitioners are being detained in the Jiamusi City Detention Centre, and Mr. Ma's residence is still being monitored. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Ma has been subjected to arrests, detention, and forced labour. He has also been dismissed from his job, cut off from sources of income, and sentenced to a 12-year prison term, as well as a series of brutal tortures. In December 2002, he was so severely tortured that he became disabled.

Mr. Du Zhenjun was released from jail on August 7th, 2009, and within a month, he was forced to leave his home. At the time, he had just completed the one-year labour camp sentence that had been forced on him in 2008. Police officers are now trying to track him down, and are monitoring the phones of his family members. This is the second time he has had to flee his home. He has been arrested, extorted and sentenced to a forced labour camp at the hands of the Chinese Communist regime, simply because he holds a firm belief in the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Falun Gong practitioners Liu Yang, Wang Sheng, Zhao Bingheng and Wang Yuhai are incarcerated at the Jidong Prison. Liu Yang was arrested in 2002 while making and distributing Falun Gong materials with other practitioners and was sent to Jidong Prison for a 8-year term. Mr. Wang Sheng, 62, was given a three-year sentence in May 2009. Mr. Wang Yuhai was given three years in prison in November 2008. The brutal torture has turned his hair white, and his vision and hearing have deteriorated. He was forced to do hard labour even though he is almost sixty years old.

On September 8th, 2009, Ms. Zhang Xinyi, a Falun Gong practitioner and a retired teacher from Changsha City, and her friend, He Minna, went to the Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine to try to persuade the school administrators and others to release a school employee, Tang Min, a Falun Gong practitioner. Tang Min is being detained at the No. 2 People's Hospital in Hunan Province. Ms. Zhang Xinyi and He Minna were seized by the school security section and reported to Hanpu Police Station. In the afternoon, the two practitioners were taken to the Changsha City Rule of Law Education Training Centre (a brainwashing centre) in Changsha City. This is the fourth time Ms. Zhang has been arrested.

On September 10th, 2009, the Linghai City Court of Liaoning Province tried practitioner Jin Bowen. Mr. Jin's family had hired two lawyers to defend him. In attendance were Mr. Jin's family, his work unit superiors, his co-workers, his lawyers, the judge, and other legal professionals. It was said that the legal professionals were there to hear how the lawyers defended a Falun Gong practitioner. In court, the Linghai City procuratorate claimed that Mr. Jin "utilized a cult organization to sabotage law enforcement." The two defence lawyers spoke firmly in favour of Mr. Jin's innocence. Many times the presiding judge and assistants did not have a reply and simply pounded on the table in great anger.

On September 19th, 2009, 15 practitioners in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province were studying Falun Gong and sharing experiences at a practitioner's home in Jianan District. As soon as they sat down, someone knocked on the door and yelled: "It is flooded upstairs. I need to check in here." Since the owner did not suspect anything, he opened the door, and six or seven police officers rushed in. The officers searched everyone and their belongings. They seized Falun Gong articles as well as other materials. The police ransacked the house, and seized a computer and some other property. They then dragged all of the practitioners into a police vehicle and took them to the police station for interrogation.

Falun Gong practitioner Wang Yanyan was arrested again and sent to the Siping City Brainwashing Centre by police on September 16th. One month before her latest arrest, Wang Yanyan and her mother had been arrested for having talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong and having distributed DVDs about Falun Gong. The two women were detained at the county detention centre for 15 days and sent to the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City soon after. Wang Yanyan's mother was punished with one year of imprisonment.

Ms. Hu Meizhi, a schoolteacher at the Paizhouwan Central School in Jiayu County, Hubei Province, was arrested on September 9th, 2009. The school leaders led the local police to arrest her. Chen Zhe (school principal of the Paizhouwan Central School as well as the Lantian Secondary School) and Yin Zuozhong (vice principal) read the newsletter "Words from the Heart in Jiayu County" and discovered that their bad deeds were exposed there. In order to take revenge on Falun Gong practitioners, Chen Zhe and Yin Zuozhong requested personnel from the County 610 office to arrest teacher Ms. Hu Meizhi and send her to a brainwashing centre.

On September 12th, 2009, Ms. Zhao Juanjuan, 70, was arrested by 610 Office police in Doumen County as she was handing out materials that explained the facts about Falun Gong at Niwan Market in Jingan Town, Juhai City. She was detained in the Second Hotel in Jingan Town. This is her tenth arrest. She has been monitored, arrested, detained, and sentenced to a labour camp over ten times.

On September 8th, 2009, the police arrested Ms. Zhang Ying at her in-law's home. When her in-law asked the police why they were arresting her and ransacking their home, and if they had any legal justification, one of the police officers answered, "We are arresting her for interrogation and investigation. The proof will be found eventually." This was her fourth arrest. Ms. Zhang's husband, was sentenced to ten years in prison and had almost lost his eyesight after eight years of imprisonment at the Shanghai Lanqiao Prison.

Mr. Wang Dejun and Mrs. Wang Xianglan are husband and wife. On August 31st, 2009, when their daughter left for school, officers from Jiangzhuang, hid near their home and arrested this couple. They are detained in the Gaomi Detention Centre and are being tortured. This couple has been persecuted for many years just because they believe in Falun Gong. Ms. Wang Xianglan was sentenced to two years of forced labour.

On September 17th, 2009, police charged into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Songli to arrest her. Her son Gao Yang leaped up to protest and protect his mother. However, Domestic Security police officer Chen Xiaodong beat him to the ground, and policeman Liang Shibin forced his knee into Gao Yang's face. He then stomped on his face, wearing shoes, while continually cursing at him. I was among the crowd that witnessed the event and it broke my heart to see a young man of 20 being beaten to the ground like that. Gao Yang was forcefully taken away.

On March 31st, 2009, Chang Zhanglin, a 610 Office policeman, arrested eleven Falun Gong practitioners at Hongqi Square in Linzhou City, Henan Province. For years, Chang Zhanglin has persecuted local practitioners. He is notorious for making unjust arrests. In July 2000, Chang Zhanglin arrested practitioners Zhang Tianshun and Wang Jianbin; Zhang Tainshun was imprisoned for 50 days and Wang Jianbin for 40 days. During the opening of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Sixteenth National Party Congress, both practitioners were arrested again, and taken to a 610 Office brainwashing unit in Linxhou City.
