Ruml said he considered the ambassador's reaction, according to which the detainees breached Chinese law and Falun Gong was a heretic sect, a "tragic comedy evidence" of an unchanged perception of human rights in China.

We have serious concerns about human rights abuses against individual practitioners. We have made clear to the Chinese that, as the Foreign Affairs Committee pointed out in its report on China in November 2000, their actions contravene the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (which China has signed though not ratified). The treatment of Falun Gong adherents features prominently in our exchanges on human rights with the Chinese.

I cannot remain Insensitive to the repression campaign led against those people, for the mere reason that they belong to a spiritual movement, I was sincerely angered by the testimonies you recounted to me.

I wish you from my whole heart that the people who hold power in China get some rational sense and stop governing their own people by the means of police’s brutality.

The German CDU is very well aware of the plight of the Falun Gong followers in China. The designated group section members of “Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid” of the CDU/CSU (Christian Socialist Union) of the party keep regular contact with Falun Gong practitioners...Let me assure you that the CDU will closely watch human rights abuses in China in the future with our utmost attention and will of course not neglect the Falun Gong movement in this effort.

Falun Gong’s sheer volume of followers has been felt as a threat and provocation by the Chinese government for years. Calm and peaceful mass demonstrations have not changed that perception. That’s why Falun Gong was outlawed in China in 1999. Women followers who demonstrate their belief in public are immediately arrested and often tortured.

I severely criticise the approach of the Chinese government, which has evoked an open repression toward the people who adhere to Falun Gong. From my personal experience I know the practices of a totalitarian power and therefore I am able to feel what is it like to be in a position of all those tortured and discriminated against in China.

I join those who severely condemn the violence committed by the Chinese government on the people who practise Falun Gong. Murders, torture and terrorising people who express the values of tolerance in this world is a horrific calling card of the Chinese administration, against which the whole world must protest.

As of now, more than 52 Members of Parliament have signed a letter that demands Jiang Zemin' Government to immediately stop the persecution against a couple practicing Falun Gong and issue a legal Chinese passport to their daughter born in Britain.

What your regime is doing is unacceptable because all human beings have the basic right to try to improve themselves according to whatever path they choose, there is simply no way to justify such a persecution. You have chosen to change, by brute force using the most cruel methods imaginable, the hearts and minds of millions of your own citizens - no decent human being can accept this. Even your worst claims against the people of Falun Gong can not possibly justify such a persecution.

The way in which the Chinese delegates reacted told us of the terrible attitude they hold when dealing with Falun Gong issues and Falun Gong practitioners. Their funny reactions only proved to us Europeans that they were afraid of us mentioning Falun Gong issues, that they were afraid of explaining the persecution on Falun Gong. Because they know that the more they try to cover up, the more loop holes they would expose, and therefore the more truth of the persecution would be exposed.

Earlier this year, the UK Foreign Office Minister, John Battle, gave an important speech just before the 57th session of the UN Commission on Human Rights and expressed strongly his support for the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners. He said "We will not step back from pressing the Chinese on the Falun Gong and the treatment of people who practise Falun Gong"

Before this annual dialogue starts, FOFG Europe once again wrote to the UK Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, to express their concern about the situation of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and the situation of Zhao Ming, a student of Trinity College in Dublin.

"...The world has witnessed that you are a group of peaceful people. What is regrettable is that China cannot hear the voices of Falun Gong. The battle to resist evil and violence is the responsibility of every individual. I hope there are more of such people like yourselves in the world. I will continue to support you. Thank you for coming to Italy.”

We feel encouraged by the peaceful demonstrations by Falun Gong. Thus we need to support them more.

I would like to emphasize that the current persecution towards Falun Gong by the Chinese government is a disaster for the whole of mankind.

On Monday 8 October 2001, Alfredo Fava Minor, General Manager of Shanghai Famas & Hocks Technical Textiles Co. Ltd., a manufacturing company based in Jinshan (60 km from Shanghai), which employs around 35 people, was stopped at Pudong Airport by the Chinese authorities and immediately re-embarked and expelled without explanation. Was it because he was a practitioner of Falun Gong?

We join the protests against the murders and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. At the same time, we want to express our support for those practitioners who continue their struggle in China.
