On October 22, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) organised a human rights forum at the Swedish Parliament. The forum was hosted by Eva Selin Lindgren, Swedish Parliament member and vice chair of WILPF. Swedish Parliament representatives, China Experts, NGOs, and representatives from other persecuted women groups attended the forum.

At the forum, Man Yan, China human rights expert from Germany, discussed the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong in China. In his presentation, he detailed torture methods used by the Chinese Communist regime against Falun Gong practitioners, exposing death cases, sexual abuse against women practitioners, and the atrocities of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners.

On October 15th, 2009, the court of Tiexi District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province brought Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Lirong to trial based on false charges fabricated jointly by the local 610 Office¹ and the National Security Group of Tiexi District.

The court did not inform Ms. Zhang's family of the trial. Guards were present the day of the trial as if something dangerous were going to happen. The street was closely monitored by police, who took photos of every person who passed by. The court successfully prevented Ms. Zhang's family from attending the trial, and also one of Ms. Zhang's lawyers from entering the court. Officers in charge of the case were Li Yunfei (female), the court chief, and Chen Yan, the judge.

On October 16th, Ms. Zhang's family came to the court early. When they were about to enter the court an officer stopped them, saying that only Zhang's mother and sister were allowed to enter. But then they forbid Ms. Zhang's mother and sister from entering by using the excuse that they did not have the proper ID. Ms. Zhang's sister then took a taxi home and came back with the required ID so they could attend the trial, but the officers told her that she could not enter with her bag. So, she gave her bag to her relatives and attempted to enter the court again, but the officers refused to admit her again, saying: "The trial commenced one minute ago and now no one is allowed to enter." In this way, all family members of Ms. Zhang were barred from attending the trial. At the same time, one of Ms. Zhang's lawyers was denied admittance to the trial too.

Another lawyer provided defence for Ms. Zhang. He said, in accordance with the law, it is not against the law to believe in Falun Gong or to explain the facts about Falun Gong to people. He requested that the court release Ms. Zhang immediately. In the so-called open trial, all attenders were police of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The trial started at 9 o'clock and ended at about 11 o'clock and no decision was made.

Ms. Zhang, 40 years old, lives in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province and is recognised as a kind person. She started practising Falun Gong 13 years ago. All of her illnesses, like gastric pain and headaches, went away and she became more broadminded and kinder than before. She often generously helped her friends without asking for anything in return. After the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong, she had been sentenced to forced labour twice for total of 5 years, one time at the Longshan Labour Camp and another time at the Masanjia Labour Camp of Shenyang City.

On July 13th, 2007, Ms. Zhang was arrested by police from the Worker's Police Station of the police department of Tiexi District and the National Security group with the accusation that she had publicised Falun Gong. Her home was also ransacked. The arrest left her elderly parents and her young child without a care giver, and her mother and sister were shocked so badly that they were ill and bedridden. Her 70-year-old mother-in-law went to the National Security Group, the Procuratorate and Court of Tiexi District many times, but they simply dismissed her without giving her any information about Ms. Zhang.

According to the latest information, after the trial on October 16,th 2009, the court of Tiexi District will try Ms. Zhang for a second time about two weeks later at the end of October. We hereby ask for people's attention to this matter.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Guangbao from Luangu Village, Zibo City, Shandong Province, has been homeless for several years due to the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution. On September 23rd, due to illness, his wife passed away, and they held the funeral on September 24th. Unexpectedly, a group of people from the 610 Office¹ and police came to the funeral and harassed the attendees. This caused anger among the neighbours and relatives, who were upset with the inappropriate actions of the police.

In recent years, Mr. Liu Guangbao constantly suffered harassment from local police and people from the 610 Office; he was forced to become homeless all year long. Moreover, police from the 610 Office tried to look for him everywhere. They once even arrested his son and daughter-in law and detained them at the police station.

Mr. Liu Guangbao's parents are in their nineties. He has a son who is not married yet. His wife had a stroke before and the stroke caused her to become blind so she needed to be looked after. His elderly parents had to take care of his wife. Despite such conditions, the 610 Office of Zhou Village, Zibo City, the National Security Team, and police from the local police station often went to his home to harass his family members. On several occasions, they climbed over the wall and broke into his home and his parents' home. They took away their motorcycle, cell phones, etc. Two elderly parents were afraid all day long.

Mr. Liu Guangbao's wife suffered harassment from the police for a long time and she worried about her husband's safety. Her illness became worse and worse. On September 23rg, 2009, she passed away at only 45 years old. September 24th was the funeral day and their relatives and folks in the village came to help them. After 8 o'clock at night, while his relatives and folks from his village were having dinner in a restaurant, over a dozen police led by Dong Changliang, the team leader of the National Security Team of Zhou Village, Zibo City, surrounded the restaurant and said they were looking for Mr. Liu Guangbao. They searched for him at every table.

The police also broke into Mr. Liu Guangbao's home and his elder brother's home at the same time and searched their homes. Nearly 50-60 plainclothes police in ten police vehicles participated in this action.

In addition, practitioner Mr. Liu Guangbao was not in contact with his wife in the three months before her death.

Ms. Yu Jingzhen, from Chenxiangtun County in Sujiatun District, Shenyang, Liaoning, has been practising Falun Gong for thirteen years. She is sixty-five years old and still in good health. Before her detention, she was doing housework, caring for the family land and taking care of her husband, who has diabetes.

On the afternoon of July 28th, 2009, Ms. Yu Jingzhen was picked up by officers from the Tonggou Police Station while she was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in Tonggou. At around seven o'clock that night, officers from the Tonggou Police Station and Sujiatun District Police Station ransacked Ms. Yu's home and confiscated some Falun Gong leaflets.

Ms. Yu's family has been forbidden from seeing her, and they haven't received any information about her. They were not informed until recently that Ms. Yu's case had been sent to the Procuratorate of Sujiatun. Ms. Yu is now being framed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Ministry of Public Security, the Procuratorate and the court.

Before she practised Falun Gong, Ms. Yu Jingzhen was very competitive and unhealthy. Her legs hurt as if cut by a knife if she stood for very long. Trying to treat the condition cost her a lot of money but she did not recover. These symptoms disappeared soon after she started practising Falun Gong in 1996. She guides herself with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and always thinks of others first. She has contributed to her community by doing things such as cleaning the hallways in public buildings and gets along with her neighbours very well.

Ms. Yu Jingzhen explained the facts about Falun Gong to people. She was apprehended and persecuted by local police in 2002. She was sent to a forced labour camp and when she was released from the camp, her hair had turned white and only one tooth was left in her mouth.

Ms. Yu Jingzhen is now being held in the Shenyang Detention Centre. Her husband, who is seventy years old, is alone at home without anyone to care for him.

At 8:30 a.m. on October 18th, 2009, Judge Mou Aiping, and court officers Lu Baoqing and Li Hong brought Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Kong Qian from Weibei District to trial. Ms. Kong received a prison sentence of nine years.

Ms. Kong was arrested on July 9th, 2009, and has been detained for more than a year. During her incarceration, this attractive young lady of good character was tortured to the point of emaciation.

Ms. Kong's parents are both police officers at Weibei Prison. They live at the residential area, which is affiliated with the Weibei Prison, located at the Weibei Farm in Hanting District of Weifang City. Ms. Kong graduated from the Weifang Nursing School. No matter where she worked, people whom she worked with had a favourable impression of her. Because they spoke up for Falun Gong, her mother and she were both detained at the brainwashing centre. After they managed to escape from there, they had been wandering about and didn't have a day of peace.

Ms. Kong's father was forced to divorce her mother due to pressure from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Ms. Kong's fiancé, Mr. Li Jiangang was also arrested and detained at the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. Even though they have their marriage certificate, they have not yet been able to hold their wedding ceremony.

At 6:00 a.m. on July 9th, 2008, Ms. Kong was arrested at her residence in the residential area affiliated with the No. 3 Power Company at Beigong Street in Weifang City, by people from the Domestic Security Brigade of Weifang City. She was then taken to the city's detention centre and incarcerated. People from the Weifang Domestic Security Brigade confiscated three computers and other items that belonged to her, valued at 20,000 yuan¹ in total. During the first four months, Ms. Kong was interrogated almost every day. Sun Wuxing, along with a person whose first name is Guowen from the Weifang City's Domestic Security Brigade, and another four people divided into two groups and took turns interrogating Ms. Kong. They deprived her of sleep and limited her use of the toilet. If she fell asleep, they woke her up by pouring cold water over her. They deprived her of sleep for four to five nights straight. When she was about to fall asleep, they used bamboo sticks or a broom to beat her.

In August 2008, when Sun Wuxing and another guard, whose last name is Zhang, were torturing her non-stop, Ms. Kong broke the bamboo stick they used to torture her in half and threw it away. Because of that, the guard Zhang pulled her hair and slapped her in the face more than twenty times. As a result, her face became swollen, she had difficulty breathing, and experienced cramps. The authorities were afraid of the consequences, so they had to take her to the Weifang City's People's Hospital for emergency treatment, give her injections, and do CT scans until she recovered.

Not long after she was detained, she was tortured until her feet and legs were swollen. She couldn't sleep because of that, and was still interrogated every day. In order to protest the inhuman torture, she went on hunger strikes four times. She was then tied to a cross and subjected to inhuman tortures. The fourth time she was on a hunger strike, she was tied to a cross which was made of reinforced iron pipes, for eight days. Her hands were stretched out and tied tightly with leather belts, her feet were handcuffed together very tightly, and her body was bound to two reinforced iron pipes, measuring 1.5 centimetres (0.6 inches) in diameter. The space between the two reinforced iron pipes was about 10 centimetres (4 inches), and she could only move her head. Her arms, legs, waist and back were in extreme pain. When she was released from the cross, she couldn't move, and she had to be taken down by others. She was tortured to the brink of death. Eight days later, she was taken to the hospital to receive forced feeding.

On October 30th, 2008, people from the Weifang City's Domestic Security Brigade transferred Ms. Kong to the Changle Forced Labour Camp. There, they forced her to sit on an iron chair² for four days and nights while depriving her of sleep. They also forced her into handcuffs and foot shackles, so that she could not move, and needed help when she had to use the toilet. In the winter, her hands and feet were frozen, and thus injured and swollen. When her relatives tried to bring her winter gloves and socks, they were rejected by people at the detention centre reception desk.

The six months of persecution left Ms. Kong with a high fever for more than ten days, a swollen body, extreme pain, unable to eat or drink. She was at the brink of death. After her relatives found out about her situation, they went to the detention centre and Domestic Security Brigade to demand to see her in person as well as having her released. The guards refused them by saying that Ms. Kong was on a hunger strike and refused to receive any medical treatment. Ms. Kong's legs were subsequently swollen for a long period of time, which caused her a great deal of pain. Thus, it was very difficult for her to sleep. She was taken to a hospital for examination, and the doctor said that she needed to be hospitalised.

On March 14th, 2009, Ms. Kong was transferred to the Weifang City's Detention Centre for further maltreatment. For the past year, Ms. Kong held hunger strikes about a dozen times. In August 2009, five days after she went on a hunger strike, she was force-fed.

Ms. Kong was brought to trial at the Hanting District Court in Weifang City on August 31st, 2009. Her family members hired two lawyers to defend her. The attorneys went to the Hanting Procuratorate to request her file, but were refused. Three days before the trial, they were provided with only the last trial records, and they were not allowed to make photocopies, so they had to copy the information by hand, and none of the other documents on file were opened to any of the lawyers.

During the trial, the principal judge kept interrupting the lawyer's defence statement. Ms. Kong's lawyer was interrupted three times. After the first interruption, the court paused, the second time, Ms. Kong protested to the principal judge, "Why do you interrupt my lawyers defending me? It's unfair!" During the course of the trial, Ms. Kong exposed the persecution by the police officers, and provided proof of the police officers beating her.

On October 18th, 2009, the Hanting District Court in Weifang City opened the trial again, and Ms. Kong received a heavy sentence of nine years imprisonment. People who participated in her persecution included people from the Weifang City Hanting District Court, the Weifang Procuratorate, the Kuiwen Procuratorate, the Hanting Procuratorate, and the Kuiwen District Police Sub-Bureau.

During the past year that Ms. Kong was detained, her mother became emaciated due to worry. She recently learned that her daughter was wrongly sentenced and received a heavy sentence. She became extremely distraught, and she is hoping that kind people will help her obtain justice, and help her daughter to reunite with her parents.

In conversations with my friends, they told me that they didn't always understand their co-workers, friends, and bosses. Sometimes they don't know if they are being kind and caring, or critical and sarcastic.

I have had similar experiences. Since I began practicing Falun Gong as a young child, I take many ordinary people's things lightly. However, as I became older and more affected by society, I also began to wonder if people had other meanings when they talked to me. As I studied the Fa more, I realized this was due to my notions and attachments. I needed to let go of this mentality. Having realized this, I decided to interpret others' words kindly. Regardless of what intent a person has, we should understand him or her in a kind way. We will not lose anything. On the other hand, we may misunderstand others if we interpret everything they say in a negative way.

I recall a story about Confucius that addresses this point. Yan Hui is Confucius' most esteemed disciple. Once when Confucius was on a teaching tour, he was stranded on the road between Chen and Cai, and did not have food for seven days. Yan Hui, after a lot of efforts, was able to find but a little rice. He built a stove to cook it. As the rice was just about done, Confucius smelled the aroma and looked up. He saw Yan Hui grabbing a handful of rice and putting it in his mouth. When Yan Hui told Confucius that the rice was ready, Confucius wanted to test him, and said, "I just dreamed of my late father. I would like to offer him this untouched rice to remember him." Yan Hui said hurriedly, "No, no, this rice is not clean. When I was cooking, some dust fell in the pot. I didn't want to throw the rice away so I just took it with my hand and ate it." Confucius then knew that Yan Hui did not steal the rice. Confucius was moved, and said, "I believe in my own eyes, but my eyes may betray me. I rely on my own thoughts, but my thoughts may not be reliable. Disciples, you should remember that it's not easy to know the intent of another person."

Conversely, if the person had bad intentions, yet we treat him with kind thoughts, we can move him and inspire his innate kindness. Goodness and evil co-exist in everyone's nature. When inspired by selflessness, one will show his kindness. During performances by Shen Yun Performing Arts, the artists embody pure goodness and pure beauty, and thus the audience responds with thunderous applause. The kindness and compassion shown through the dances and songs move many to tears, restore their faith in traditional cultures, and awaken their kind thoughts. A virtuous person should have a big heart. One can only understand and forgive others if he is able to be selfless.

As the ancient book of Zhong Yong says, "Having learned the benefits [of being virtuous], [Yan Hui] always remembered it in his heart and never let it depart." I hope that after hearing this story, you will also treat everyone around you with kindness. It is easy to have kind thoughts occasionally; it takes a selfless heart to always treat everyone kindly.

I am 72 years old. When I was in my early 40s, I suffered all kinds of illnesses with the worst being rheumatism. I hurt everywhere, from head to toe, and could find no relief. I was disabled and could not go up or down stairs without being in pain. There were times when I could barely walk, and sometimes I fainted and fell down. I sought help at every hospital I could think of and took a lot of medication three times a day. Years passed without any relief. Because of the pain I became extremely irritable. I often thought about the meaning of life and if there was a way to keep me free of pain.

1. Finding the Truth of Life

"A long, long time--ten thousand lifetimes of predestination, Dafa, like a thread, strings them together" ("The Path to Divinity is Difficult" from Hong Yin II (version B))

In April 1999, true spring came into my life. One day a customer, a Falun Dafa practitioner, came to our barbershop, introduced me to the spiritual of practice Falun Gong, and invited me to join a nearby exercise site. This practice helped me find the truth about our existence for the first time in my life and gave me hope.

The next day, I obtained the main book of the practice, Zhuan Falun; a CD with the Changchun and other lectures; and the exercise instruction CD. I was illiterate, yet when I first held the book Zhuan Falun, Dafa's magic power manifested and I could recognize every character. Tears wet my face, and I felt unspeakable gratitude towards Teacher.

From that time on I went to the exercise site in the morning and evening. I did the exercises and studied the Fa with fellow practitioners. I spent all my free time doing the exercises and reading the Dafa books. Only one week into the practice, the rheumatism that had tortured me for years was gone. I no longer was in pain, my entire body felt relaxed, and I was filled with energy.

All my family members, relatives, neighbours, and co-workers witnessed the marvel of Falun Gong through me. They admired Falun Gong and no one prevented me from practicing it.

2. Falun Dafa Dissipates the Fog

After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, practitioners lost contact with each other. I felt immense loneliness. But, I was certain about one thing: the Dafa taught by Teacher is the real Dharma, the universal truth, which one might not encounter in tens of thousands of years. Nothing would prevent me from practicing Falun Gong.

Despite the endless false propaganda against Falun Gong that was disseminated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) media, I continued to do the exercises and study the Fa diligently. It did not take long for the Chinese Communist Party secretary and security personnel from my workplace to come to my home and demand that I hand over all Falun Gong books. I asked them, "Don't you know how important these books are to me? My life was restored by this Dafa. You all know about my serious illnesses before practicing Falun Dafa and now I no longer have to depend on any medication. It is Dafa that saved my life. These books are more precious than my life! You can take my life, but not these books." They left and never returned to ask for the books.

During the years after Falun Dafa was banned, I felt sad and alone. I could not find any practitioners. I had not read any of Teacher's new scriptures and did not know the overall Fa-rectification situation. Sometimes I became so anxious that I cried. But, I continued to read Zhuan Falun and Teacher's earlier lectures, did the exercises every day, and asked Teacher to help me find other practitioners. I told my relatives, friends, and colleagues that Falun Dafa was good, as could be witnessed by the changes in me after practicing. I asked them to not believe the CCP's media slander about Falun Gong.

One day, shortly after the 2004 Chinese lunar year, I took my grandson to a park. There I ran into two practitioners distributing materials clarifying the facts about Falun Gong. The minute I saw the materials I became so excited that I couldn't hold back my tears. Holding the practitioners' hands I could not say a word for a long time. My grandson got frightened and asked, "Grandma, what's wrong with you? What did these two elderly ladies do?"

I immediately asked these practitioners to give me a lot of informational materials, so I could distribute them and make up for all the time of truth clarification I had missed. The practitioners left their phone numbers and told me that they would provide me with more materials later. I sincerely thank our great and compassionate Teacher that I had finally found fellow practitioners!

3. Catching Up

Meeting these practitioners made it possible for me to participate in group Fa study again. We read Teacher's new scriptures and exchanged our understandings. After I read the new scriptures, truth-clarifying materials and the Minghui Weekly, I realized that fellow practitioners did so well in following the Fa-rectification process. They did the three things (study the Fa [the teachings of Falun Dafa], send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and about the persecution to the world's people) well. I recognized the big gap between them and me. I made up my mind that I had to become a qualified practitioner, so Teacher wouldn't worry about me. I would step forward to help Teacher save sentient beings and do everything a Fa-rectification period practitioner should do. I had no special aptitude, so I decided to distribute materials.

At the beginning when distributing the materials, I was a little afraid and not very confident. Sometimes I met up with people who did not understand what I was doing and said some bad words. I did not argue with them. I thought that their attitude was because they did not know the facts. Once their misconceptions about Falun Gong were cleared away, they would no longer badmouth the practice.

One day when I gave a leaflet to a young lady, she threw it on the ground and said, "You are so old and still do what the CCP does not allow you to do. I'd like to report you to police!" My heart really hurt terribly for her, and I quickly picked up the leaflet. I said, "Do not throw these materials on the ground. All of them were produced by Falun Gong practitioners to save sentient beings with their own money. They are really good for your future. And you should not believe the CCP lies. You need to think of yourself and your family. You must have heard or seen all the natural and man-made disasters. These are omens that heaven will eliminate the evil CCP. After you read these materials, you will understand the truth. If you make the right choice, Buddha will take care of you, keep you safe from disasters, and you will have a bright future. I am already white-haired and would not deceive you." She quietly listened to me and accepted the leaflet. She apologized and thanked me. I told her, "Do not thank me. This is the compassion that my Teacher holds for all sentient beings!"

On another occasion, I gave a middle-aged man some materials. He accepted them and looked at them. Then he said, "I have read your materials about Falun Gong and also believe them. I am a public security bureau chief and have not persecuted Falun Gong. I respect all practitioners." I was deeply moved. Our fellow practitioners have done so well. They have already sown the seeds for a bright future in the hearts of these sentient beings. He also told me that he had quit the CCP. I was really happy and said, "You understood the truth and have quit the CCP. You will have a happy future."

Another time when my husband and I went for a walk, I noticed a plastic bag on the ground. I picked it up and found quite a few documents inside. I thought that its owner must be very anxious, so I called a local police station, and they found the owner. It belonged to a young man who hadn't realized that he had lost his bag. When he heard that someone had picked up his stuff, he was deeply moved and called me. Two days later he came to my house to pick up his bag. He presented a check and said, "Everything is still inside, even the 1,000 yuan. I am so grateful to you. I would have had to spend at least six months to re-apply for the documents in that bag. They are very important to me. " He insisted on giving me the 1,000 yuan. I told him, "Son, I don't want the money. I am a Falun Gong practitioner. My teacher taught us to be good and practice Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. If you really want to thank anyone, please thank my Teacher." He was deeply touched and returned two days later to my house with a lot of fruit. He told me that he was the captain of a Special Police Team. He sincerely thanked me again. I said, "All Falun Gong practitioners are good people. You should treat them nicely in the future. Do not participate in the persecution. Falun Gong teaches people to be kind. Please help Falun Gong if you can. " He nodded and said that he really understood that from my actions. He would treat Falun Gong practitioners well.

Since 2004, regardless of the weather, I have distributed truth-clarifying materials almost daily. I hand most materials to people directly. I distribute fliers, copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, Shen Yun Performing Arts show CDs, and other materials. Sometimes I talk to people about Falun Gong. Occasionally I have met up with people who held misconceptions about Falun Gong and said something bad. I remain calm at all times. More and more I am able to do the three things well. I firmly believe, "As a Fa-rectification period practitioner, I cannot shirk my responsibilities or slack off from assisting Teacher to save more sentient beings. I also clearly understand that it is Teacher who does everything. Teacher has given me so much. What I need is to cultivate more diligently and do the three things well, so that I will not be unworthy of Teacher's compassion and the great title of "Fa-rectification period Dafa disciple."

4. Being Firm in My Belief in Teacher Helps Me Overcome Tribulations

At the end of May, as I was walking down a street, suddenly a stocky middle-aged man threw me to the ground. Immediately I felt as if my backbone had cracked. A sudden extreme pain made me cry out. I asked Teacher for help, as I had to return home. I sat on curb for more than half hour and then had a difficult time standing up. Then, my grandson appeared. With his help I could return home. I lay down on the bed and then could not stand up again. In my mind I asked Teacher, "Please save your disciple! I have to assist you in saving sentient beings. If the tribulation is what I owed others, I will repay what I should repay. If it was persecution from the old forces, I absolutely do not recognize it."

That evening, I persevered in doing the five exercises despite being in pain. The next morning, despite the pain, I got up early to practice the exercises and read the Fa, holding Teacher's words in mind "When it's difficult to endure, you can endure it. When it's impossible to do, you can do it. " (Zhuan Falun) This went on for four days. On the fifth day, I went out to distribute materials. I walked like a hunchback and had to stop every few yards until all the materials were distributed. On the ninth day, I could again go to the bathroom. After I came out of the bathroom, I felt as if I had changed into a totally new person. I was without any pain. All my family members and neighbours were surprised at how fast I recovered! It was simply inconceivable! Again, they all witnessed the miracle of Falun Gong!

Throughout the past ten years on my cultivation path, I have enlightened to many Fa truths. It was not easy. Without Teacher's compassionate care, I could not have taken a single tiny step. If there had been no encouragement and support from fellow practitioners, I could not have managed.

I would like to thank our compassionate Teacher and my fellow practitioners for being there when I needed them most. I will continue on my cultivation path and stride forward even more diligently and more firmly!
