| · EFGIC: The “Transformation” of Mr. Han
| LONDON (EFGIC) – Sources in China recently related to us the story of Mr. Han, a Falun Gong practitioner whose journey took him from being tortured to becoming the torturer, and finally back again, until he was ultimately killed by the very same system. Beijing resident Mr. Han Junqing had been a petty criminal and troublemaker in the days before he started practising Falun Gong. After taking up the practice of Falun Gong, according to a source that knew his story well, Mr. Han turned over a new leaf. He strove to follow Falun Gong’s teaching of being kind to others and became a genuinely good person. After Jiang Zemin ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Han, like many others, used various peaceful ways to appeal for an end to the persecution of his fellow practitioners. He, himself, was eventually arrested and sent to a forced labour camp for “re-education,” a process in which a person is forced from their faith. | “[Collaborators] spend their days applying physical and psychological torture techniques to those who were once their fellow practitioners, inmates, and close friends.” | In the labour camp, in spite of suffering severe torture, Mr. Han remained determined not to give in to the coercion and not to give up the spiritual path that had positively changed his life. He told the guards who tortured him, “You can break my neck and shatter my bones, but I will still practise Falun Gong!”But the pressure was just too great. Not only do prisoners in these labour camps endure physical torture, they are deprived of proper nourishment and sleep. Sanitary conditions are extremely poor, and they are forced to toil almost around the clock making various products for export. The mental strain is tremendous. What broke Mr. Han, however, were the collaborators. “Collaborators” are former Falun Gong practitioners who, unable to endure the torture, not only give up their practice, but are even pressured into collaborating with the guards. They spend their days applying physical and psychological torture techniques to those who were once their fellow practitioners, inmates, and close friends. After eight months, Mr. Han could not endure anymore and he joined the collaborators. Now he was torturing those who had previously looked up to his great ability to endure. “He reverted back to his old self,” says the source. “I witnessed how he tortured determined Falun Gong practitioners. He verbally abused and beat them, tied them up and poured boiling water on them. He also beat me and left many scars on my body.” Demonstrating his cooperation with the guards, and deemed sufficiently “transformed,” Mr. Han was released from the camp. For the past several years, Chinese authorities have carried out organized brainwashing or “transformation” classes in labour camps, detention centres, state-run businesses, and universities throughout China. The sessions are designed to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their beliefs, often utilizing a combination of physical torture, sleep deprivation and severe psychological assaults. Hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners, both young and old, have been forced to undergo these sessions, for as long as it takes to either break their wills or end their lives. Once Mr. Han returned home, however, with the encouragement of his peers and after encountering Falun Gong’s teachings anew, he realized what he had done. He set his mind to make amends for it. Mr. Han then bought a photocopying machine and put it in his home. He used it to make flyers that counter the state-run propaganda by telling the truth about Falun Gong and what kind of persecution millions of practitioners face. He also helped other former practitioners-turned-collaborators by giving them articles to read that spoke to the crimes of conscience they were participating in. Last April, however, Mr. Han was seized once more by police while delivering such articles to former collaborators in Hebei Province. His home was ransacked and he was again sent to detention and tortured. Last month, after going from being tortured to being the torturer to being tortured once more, 47-year-old Mr. Han was killed. # # #PRESS STATEMENT – July 8, 2004 European Falun Gong Information Centre, www.clearharmony.net
BackgroundFalun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa (about), is a practise of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." Practised in over 50 countries world-wide, Falun Gong has roots in traditional Chinese culture. With government estimates of as many as 100 million practising Falun Gong, China's Communist leader Jiang Zemin outlawed the peaceful practise in July 1999 (report). Since that time, Jiang's regime has intensified its propaganda campaign to turn public opinion against the practise while imprisoning, torturing and even murdering those who practise it. The European Falun Gong Information Centre has verified details of 1000 deaths (reports / sources) since the persecution of Falun Gong in China began in 1999. In October 2001, however, Government officials inside China reported that the actual death toll was well over 1,600. Expert sources now estimate that figure to be much higher. Hundreds of thousands have been detained, with more than 100,000 being sentenced to forced labour camps, typically without trial. | · Report from the French Falun Dafa Information Centre: The President of the Closing Ceremony of China-France Culture Year, Li Changchun, Sued in Paris
| On the afternoon of July the 2nd, a lawsuit filed against Mr. Li Changchun, accused of being an accessory to torture, was handed to the Inquisitor of the Superior Republic Court of Paris. The lawsuit was accepted. As a Committee member of the Central Communist China Political Department, the former Guangdong Province's Committee Secretary Mr. Li Changchun has prepared for the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners even before the 20th of July 1999 and has vigorously helped to sustain the execution of the persecution. After Falun Gong was formally banned, Li Changchun enthusiastically participated in all kinds of persecution, from the propaganda slandering Falun Gong to the designs of the persecution itself. His high official ranking allowed him to play an important role. Below are a few statistics about the persecution of Falun Gong in Guangdong Province: In twenty three cases of validated deaths, Australian citizen Mrs Dai Zhizhen's husband was included. Li Changchun was Guangdong Province's Committee Secretary at the time. Sixty-three prisons, labour camps, detention centres and mental hospitals directly executed the 610 Office's orders: Illegal arrests, detention at will, brainwashing and torturing to death. At present there is not an accurate number of those persecuted yet, but it is estimated to be about a few thousand. The China-France Culture Year had reached its climax at the Spring Festival celebrations in January. On Friday night, the China-France Culture Year drew to a close with fireworks at Versailles and with the same conditions of contempt of human rights. The former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin is the main person responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong. In several countries in North America and Europe, Falun Gong practitioners, through famous human rights lawyers, have all handed lawsuits against genocide and inhumanity to the courts. | |
| · Interview with Jane Dai: "Considering of the Children's Future"
| On the day of the 2004 Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference in Vienna, I met Ms Jane Dai and her four year old daughter Fadu. Three years ago her husband in China was persecuted to death by Jiang’s regime simply because he persisted in practising Falun Gong and refused to give up his belief in Truthfulness Compassion and Forbearance. From March 2002, Jane and her daughter have travelled to thirty-seven countries around the world to tell people the facts of the persecution experienced by her husband and tens of thousands Falun Gong practitioners, and to appeal for kind-hearted people’s help to end this persecution. They have received massive support and keen interest from many people, especially from politicians and the news media wherever they have visited. They have stayed in Europe the longest, and the European countries are the ones they have visited the most. I interviewed her about her experiences in Europe: Q: Can you tell me how you let people know the facts together with your fellow practitioners in Europe? A: It depends; we use different approaches in different countries. Some approaches are quite effective. For example, recently I was invited to take part in seminars on “Human Rights in China” , held in the parliaments of the four Nordic countries. In a seminar at the Swedish parliament, representatives from six parties attended. During the seminar, human rights experts, lawyers, and Falun Gong practitioners analysed the current situation of the human rights issues in China from different angles, everybody was free to ask questions and air their opinions. When I finished my speech on the persecution of Falun Gong in China, I also got the opportunity to answer questions such as, “Why does Falun Gong encounter this suppression?” I answered that the reason that Jiang suppresses Falun Gong is that the principle of Truthfulness Compassion and Forbearance is different from the aims of his governing power. Falun Gong wins more and more people’s hearts; therefore the former president of China has suppressed Falun Gong due to his envy. I found the effect of clarifying the facts was pretty good when properly answering such kind of questions. Moreover, there are many parliament members and reporters attending the seminar, they will have a deeper understanding about the persecution of Falun Gong in China after they have whole picture about human rights violations in China. Q: You participated in suing Jiang Zemin in several countries; please tell us your feelings. A: While Jiang visited Germany and another five countries in Eastern Europe, I participated in all protest activities, and also experienced the evil way Jiang extends the persecution overseas. My husband’s death and the persecution of tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners is the result of Jiang’s suppression. It is significant to sue Jiang overseas. I, as one of the plaintiffs, took part in the lawsuit against Jiang in Germany, Belgium, and Spain. What impressed me deeply in Belgium was that so many of the media attended our press conference, and also reported on us very positively. I felt the power of justice. Q: From last year you have visited some Eastern European countries. Please talk about your experience there. A: Dafa practitioners in Eastern Europe are really remarkable. They are short of manpower and face many difficulties. One practitioner has to do many things, but they have done very well. There have been many positive reports on Falun Gong in countries such as the Czech Republic and Poland, both of which I visited; I was also interviewed by TV stations. When I was in Bulgaria, several local practitioners had not slept for several days, preparing the necessary documents to send to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Afterwards I made an appointment with a Special Commissioner on human rights in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the effect of clarifying the truth face-to-face was extremely good. In March this year, Hungarian practitioners led me to the Presidential Office of Hungary; we had the opportunity to tell them the facts about Falun Gong. When I learned that Hungary voted against China’s “No-motion” in the United Nations meeting this year, I was so happy; I thought this was related to Hungarian practitioners’ diligent efforts of clarifying the facts. Q:You bring your daughter with you and must overcome many difficulties. The path of your cultivation cannot be tribulation-free. Tell us, how do you improve your cultivation and xinxing [heart/mind nature]? A: My daughter is very young; she always travels with me, it is not easy for us. However, many practitioners have given us massive help including with my daughter’s education, which has allowed me to overcome many difficulties. Q: I heard that you and little Fadu told stories at a primary school in Sweden, and several hundred children learned about Falun Gong. Is it true? A: Yes, it is. With the help of Swedish practitioners, we had the opportunity to hold seminars in a primary school. I told Fadu's story to the children and their teachers. She lost her father when she was very young because her father practised Falun Gong. I talked about what Falun Gong is. We showed photos of Fadu’s everyday life. We taught the children to fold lotus flowers, played the Lotus Song, and little Fadu performed lotus dancing. The children were drawn very deeply to us and teachers could not imagine how we could still bring goodness to others after experiencing such a horrible tribulation. I told them that this is from Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness Compassion and Forbearance and that we hope they also get benefits from Dafa. During that period of time, everybody in the school was talking about Falun Gong. Children hung their own-made lotus flowers in their classrooms as decorations. I felt this was a very significant thing to do. I hope we can go to more schools to let more school children know about Falun Gong. As it says in the Lotus Song, we should consider the children’s future … … | |
| · Holland: "Petal of Peace" Activity Held in a Primary School
| A primary school in Southern Holland invited Falun Gong practitioners to introduce Falun Gong and to tell the children the meaning of the “Petal of Peace” activity. This was an opportunity for the children to learn more about Chinese culture. While the practitioners were demonstrating the exercises and explaining how to make peace petals, they told the teachers and thirty-six students about the persecution of Falun Gong taking place in China. Practitioners encouraged everyone to make peace petals as symbols of truth and hoped that they would give support to help to end the persecution of Falun Gong. Peace petals can also show everyone’s concern for practitioners in China. The children were happy to show the peace petals they made to everyone. Although there was only one and a half hours of time, the children were all very active. Teachers also liked the T-shirts with Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance printed on them. | |
| · Germany: Introducing Falun Gong at Chamer City Citizen Festival
| Chamer, a small city in German Bavaria, hosted a large-scale Citizen Festival on June the 26th and 27th. Local Falun Gong practitioners participated with a display stand introducing Falun Gong, as well as performances of traditional singing and dancing. Falun Gong's participation brought peace and harmony to the Citizen Festival, which bustled with noise and excitement. During the two days of activities, practitioners came to realise that people are awakening to the truth, as many people expressed their support for Dafa and for the lawsuits against the criminals involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners currently taking place in Mainland China. After seeing our exercise demonstration, many people said that they would like to learn the exercises. When we were setting up, a hotel manager would not allow us to hang our display banner on her wall. When she learned that we were Falun Gong practitioners, she changed her mind and allowed us to hang the banner because she had watched our exercise demonstration and was quite attracted to it. She had also read about the persecution of Falun Gong in local newspapers. As a result, she supported our activities, graciously allowed us to use the toilet in her hotel for nothing, and offered us an extension cord to play our dancing music. One young man came directly to our display stand to sign the petition and also asked his friends to sign the petition in support of the lawsuits against Jiang Zemin. Upon being asked why he understood Falun Gong, he said that he saw the Falun Gong parade in Vienna last week and was impressed by its beauty. Today when he saw the petition in support of the lawsuits against the criminals responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong, he signed his name without hesitation. The Mayor who hosted the Citizen Festival watched our exercise demonstration and came to our display stand for a brief chat. He said that he was acquainted with a student from China whose understanding of Falun Gong was completely different from the information we offered. We told the Mayor that the propaganda slandering Falun Gong distributed and broadcast constantly in China resulted in this kind of wrong understanding. We asked the mayor to give a pamphlet of information about Falun Dafa to the student, but the Mayor said that he had already showed him the Falun Gong newspaper the other day. At the Citizen Festival we also met the government official in charge of the festival and thanked the city government for offering Falun Gong a precious opportunity to tell the facts to more people. The official said smilingly, "Falun Gong makes contributions to our Citizen Festival." The chairperson of the German Political Party SPD in Chamer City also attended the Citizen Festival. He said that now he had a deeper understanding of Falun Gong and wanted to talk more with us about the practice. Then he accepted a copy of our newly printed Falun Dafa information newspaper. At the Citizen Festival, Falun Gong drew the attention of three newspapers who individually published our photos and reports this week. | |
| · Europe Condemns the Jiang Regime's Terrorism in South Africa
| | |
| · Article from The Times: Falun Gong Practitioner Shot in South Africa
| Five Falun Gong practitioners from Australia were shot at by an unidentified gunman on June 28th in Johannesburg South Africa after they arrived there to protest against the persecution of Falun Gong during the visit of two top Chinese officials: Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai. The news was reported by The Times, one of the most prestigious news papers in UK, in their “Faith in Brief” column as follows:-. Faith in Brief Compiled by Luke Coppen http://www.timesonline.co.uk/ A member of the Falun Gong movement has been shot in a drive-by attack in South Africa. David Liang sustained gunshot wounds to his feet after his car was sprayed with bullets near Johannesburg. He was in the country to protest at talks between the Chinese and South African governments. “After shooting at us they did not rob us and simply sped away,” Mr Liang said from his hospital bed. “We are sure the Chinese Government is involved.” | |
| · France: Practitioners Expose the Jiang Group’s Acts of Terrorism
| On June 28th, nine Australian Falun Gong practitioners travelled to South Africa in an attempt to file a lawsuit against China's Vice-President Zen Qinghong and to peacefully protest against the persecution of Falun Gong. When they were leaving the airport for the Presidential Guest House, a white car suddenly opened fire, targeting Falun Gong practitioners. David Liang, the only one practitioner in the car wearing clothing with the words "Falun Dafa" who was also the driver, was seriously injured; the car was damaged. The evil incident excited intense concern from the international community. The indications are that the Jiang group committed an act of terrorism of employing hired gunmen to attack Falun Gong practitioners. For one thing, Zeng Qinghong has been in charge of the Communist Party's secret service, notorious for cruelty and cunning. Zeng displayed his cruelty and lack of conscience by advising Jiang on strategies to seize his political power and to persecute Falun Gong. The Jiang group brutally and violently persecutes Falun Gong, employing over one hundred torture methods and hiring gunmen to attack Falun Gong practitioners who "would not fight back when being punched or insulted." Outside China the Jiang group has been utilising secret agents and gangsters to harass Falun Gong practitioners. Additionally, evidence seems to indicate that this is not an ordinary case of shooting and robbing, but an act of terrorism directly targeting Falun Gong practitioners. Additionally, the gunmen deliberately shot at the tires and the driver’s compartment in a high-speed car with the apparent intention of causing the deaths of the driver and passengers. To expose the Jiang group's act of terrorism of employing hired gunmen to kill Falun Gong practitioners, French Falun Gong practitioners immediately visited the South African Embassy and the Australian Embassy in Paris, giving them materials about Falun Gong and the persecution, and calling on the governments of South Africa and Australia to thoroughly investigate the shooting incident. The government officials of the Australian embassy immediately expressed their willingness to contact the South African government agencies concerned. On July 1st and 2nd, a group of practitioners arrived at the Chinese embassy and consulate to peacefully protest against the Jiang group's act of terrorism. Being shocked by the act of terrorism, people at all levels of society voiced their support for the protest. Telling people the facts outside the Chinese consulate

| · AFP: Falun Gong Practitioner Shot in South Africa
| According to an AFP report on June the 29th, Five Falun Gong practitioners from Australia were shot at by an unidentified gunman on June 28th in Johannesburg, South Africa, after they arrived there to protest against the persecution of Falun Gong during the visit of two top Chinese officials: Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai. The shooting of a Falun Gong practitioner in Johannesburg is another example of the persecution of the movement by certain elements of the Chinese government, says the group. Selby Bokaba, the police spokesman, told AFP, “On 28th June, five passengers from Australia arrived at Johannesburg International Airport and prepared to protest against the violation of human rights in China during the visit of the Chinese vice-president.” “The shooting took place when the party got lost on their way from the Johannesburg International Airport to Pretoria. A car overtook them and some unidentified man in the car fired at them and fled. One passenger suffered gunshot wounds to both feet and will undergo surgery”, he said. The police have also said the motive behind the shooting was still unknown. According to the organisation's website, the group planned to launch an international court action against the two visiting Chinese officials. “They intended to hold a press conference to expose the crimes of the two officials and to have legal papers served on them,”says the same source. The group has labelled the shooting an assassination attempt and says it is part of a global plot by certain Chinese officials to persecute Falun Gong.

| · Dafa Practitioner Ms. Zhou Chengyu Killed in Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City
| Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhou Chengyu was fifty-five years old. She was a library assistant at the Yuzhou University in Chongqing City. Zhou Chengyu went to the Chongqing railway station to travel to Beijing to appeal for Dafa, which is a right granted to her by the Chinese Constitution. She was subsequently arrested and sent to a brainwashing class. Since she refused to give up her beliefs, she was sent to the Maojiashan Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City on February 9, 2001 by police. Zhou Chengyu refused to renounce her belief at the Forced Labour Camp, as well. She stated to her persecutors: "It is absolutely impossible for me to be transformed." She was brutally tortured by policewoman Yang Ming (ID number: 5032015). As a result, she suffered cuts and bruises over her entire body. Yang Ming insisted that her injuries came from scabies and that it was infectious. She forced her to apply a topical medicine, but Zhou Chengyu firmly refused to cooperate. Yang Ming lashed out by ordering drug addicts Xie Guiping, He Xiaoping, Liu Chengling, Nie Juan, Shen Ling and Wang Suxiao to force-feed her a large dose of medicine every day. As a result, her abdomen became more swollen and harder each day. The pain became unbearable, but Yang Ming would not let up on her persecution. At midnight on Sept. 28, 2004, Zhou Chengyu's complexion was pale and she was very weak. The inmate on duty discovered her abnormal condition and reported it to Yang Ming immediately. He proclaimed that Zhou Chengyu was dying. Yang ordered drug addicts Liu Chengling and Wang Xiaosu to drag her out of her cell. Zhou Chengyu held onto the metal bed frame and firmly refused to cooperate. The two could not remove her, so they went to ask Yang for instructions. Yang Ming instructed them to forcibly drag her out. At the cell door, Zhou Chengyu requested Yang to allow another fellow practitioner to accompany her. Yang flatly refused. Directed by the policewoman, the two drug addicts pulled Zhou Chengyu out. Ms. Zhou was not seen alive again. She was only 55. | · The Persecution That Mr. Wang Hongtian Suffered in Jiutai Yinmahe Labour Camp Before His Death
| In November 2001, police in Dehui City, Jilin Province kidnapped Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Hongtian as he distributed Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. A few days later, he was sent to the Yinmahe Labour Camp in Jiutai, Jilin Province. This was the second time that Mr. Wang had been sent to this labour camp. In the first half of 2002, without any explanation, a group of police from Changchun transferred Mr. Wang from the labour camp to the basement of a secret apartment building in Changchun City, Jilin Province. It had been specifically designed to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. There were "tiger benches" [1], electric batons and other instruments of torture. They tied Mr. Wang to a metal chair and shocked him with an over-sized electric baton. Usually the police used this size baton to shock only death row inmates, even though it was illegal to do so. The police interrogated Mr. Wang to try to find out where he got the Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. When they couldn't get any results from Mr. Wang, they cuffed him to the chair for a whole night. The next day they sent him to the Tiebie Detention Centre in Changchun City and illegally confined him there for more than 40 days. Afterwards, they transferred him back to the Yinmahe Labour Camp in Jiutai. In the latter half of 2002, the entire Fourth Brigade, including Mr. Wang, was transferred to the "Education Team" for "strict guarding," which was actually just more brutal torture. Mr. Wang had little to eat every day, and he became very weak. He was still forced to process melon seeds every day. In order to "transform"[2] Falun Gong practitioners, the labour camp supplied them with only coarse food. Once another prisoner got an extra steamed bun with his meal, so he gave it to Mr. Wang. When the guard Lu Si saw this, he shouted that Officer Lu's orders were not to give any rice or steamed buns to practitioners. He took the steamed bun away from Mr. Wang and threw it in the toilet. Officer Lu, whose full name is Lu Changtai, once beat a Falun Gong practitioner to death. In September 2002, Mr. Wang started to cough and felt cold all the time. Li Chengzhou , the political instructor of the Education Team said sarcastically, "We need to get a doctor for him." But he did nothing. Mr. Wang Hongtian fainted many times in the toilet. Even so, the guards forced him to continue to process melon seeds without any breaks, even through the noon hour. After more than 10 days, the guards took Mr. Wang to an outside hospital for an examination. The X-ray showed that both of Mr. Wang's lungs were in very bad shape. Afterwards, the guards said behind Mr. Wang's back, "Wang will not be able to survive for more than three days." Even so, the guards wouldn't let him off. On September 16, 2002, Lu Changtai told Guo Zhongqiu, a former practitioner who turned against Dafa under extreme pressure and torture, to get Mr. Wang's signatures on two forms. One was a "release on bail for medical treatment form." The other form was a "Guarantee Statement"[3]. Mr. Wang was unconscious at the time, so Guo just took Mr. Wang's hand and pressed his hand imprint on the forms. Since Mr. Wang couldn't sign, Guo signed for him. He said, "It was a forged one anyway. I'll just sign for him." On September 18, 2002, Guard Ying Xuefu put Mr. Wang Hongtian into a car. Zheng Haining and Officer Xie from the administrative office drove Mr. Wang home to Chalukou Town in Dehui City. On his second day home, Mr. Wang passed away. It was September 20, 2002. Mr. Wang is survived by his wife and two children, and they now have a very tough life. His older daughter has been out of school. His wife is trying to make a living by picking and selling recyclable items from the trash. A once happy family has been wrecked. To prevent such tragedies from happening again, to uphold justice, we ask all kind-hearted people to raise their voices in a call for justice. Together let us resist this inhuman and brutal persecution of innocent Falun Gong practitioners and stop the Jiang regime's atrocities. June 25, 2004 [1] Tiger Bench: Practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead. They are not allowed to turn their heads, close their eyes, talk to anyone or move at all. Several inmates are assigned to watch over the practitioners and force them to remain motionless while sitting on the bench. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the practitioners' lower legs or ankles to make it harder for them to tolerate this abuse (see illustration on ) [2] Transform: Jiang's regime uses all kinds of torture and brainwashing methods to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief. [3] "Guarantee Statement": A statement to declare that he or she is remorseful for practising Falun Gong and guarantees not to practise Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners. | · Falun Gong Practitioners Jailed in Hunan Province, Forced to Do Slave Labour
| According to Falun Gong practitioners released from Changsha Prison in Hunan Province, they were forced to perform slave labour for 13-14 hours every day. Being forced to work until 11:00 p.m., or until sunrise the next day, was not uncommon. In one detention centre there was an accident after a criminal inmate was forced to work for five days and nights, under threat of the electric baton. Four fingers on his left hand were crushed by an iron gate. When Falun Gong practitioners requested the right to observe an 8-hour work day and have Sunday off, they were thrown into solitary confinement for up to 90 days. Many practitioners have been subjected to this treatment. Recently the Changsha Prison was contracted to produce electronic products. The products were ordered by a Xinglong Electronic Factory in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, for a company named "Taida" in Taiwan, which is a supplier for Sony. We want to appeal to the international community, and overseas companies and enterprises to pay attention to the violations of human rights and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. We offer this special warning to Sony and Taida: many of your products manufactured in China were made using forced labor with no human rights protections, and your investments may have been used by the Jiang regime to persecute Falun Gong. This is not something a person of conscience would like to see. Please do not supply capital to the regime. Let us expose the persecution and safeguard human rights. Twelve practitioners are being jailed in Changsha Prison as of June 1. Initially, all Falun Gong practitioners were jailed in this prison. However, the practitioners continued to practise in prison and resisted the persecution. Many of them were called "diehards," and were thrown into solitary confinement, where some of them held hunger strikes for as long as 10 days to protest the ill treatment. In April 2003, the practitioners were transferred to the Changde Jinshi Farm. | · The Detention Centre Personnel in Dehui City, Jilin Province Torture Falun Dafa Practitioners
| On November 16, 2003, the detention centre of Dehui City, Jilin Province, started another round of torturing Dafa practitioner Mr. Sun Qian. Mr. Sun had been on hunger strike for a month and was unable to walk. The authorities tied Mr. Sun to the bed board for over 20 days, causing his muscles to atrophy below his waist. At round 9:00 a.m. on November 16, 2003, policemen Du and Pan handcuffed both of Mr. Sun's hands and dragged him from the clinic on 2nd floor to cell #106 on the 1st floor. They injured his left shoulder joint and damaged his lower back and shoulder muscles. When he was dragged down the stairs, two inmates tried to lift his two feet off the ground to reduce the impact, but the two policemen stopped them. In cell #106, the two policemen handcuffed both of Mr. Sun's hands to the steel rings on the bed board and shackled his two feet. Then, they tied his feet to the steel rods under the bed so that his four limbs were spread out to keep him from moving. Mr. Sun was forced in such a position for 48 hours in unbearable pain from the torture. On the morning of November 18, Mr. Sun was force-fed and the torture instruments were taken off. On the afternoon of November 20, he protested the persecution he received and was then tied to the bed board the same way as above. A plastic tube was inserted into his nose for force-feeding. The rope tying his shackles to the bed were not taken off until three days later. His handcuffs were not taken off until 20 days later. During that period, Mr. Sun had to relieve himself in the bed since he was handcuffed. His shackles were not taken off until 30 days later. By then, his muscles below the waist had atrophied and he temporarily lost the use of his limbs. Mr. Sun Qian was later held in Jilin Prison. The prison was afraid of being responsible for his deteriorating health as his condition became critical. They carried him back to the detention centre but the Changchun City Intermediate People's Court Issued an order to "forcibly put in him in jail". Thus, he was carried back to the Jilin Prison. It's said that he received more brutal persecution there. Cell #106 and #107 both have steel rings welded on the bed boards that are specifically used to torture the detainees. Each cell comes equipped with devices to confine three prisoners inside. Chinese version available at http://www.minghui.ca/mh/articles/2004/6/22/77654.html

| · Jiang and His Followers' State Terrorism Displayed in South Africa Shooting
| On the evening of June 28, 2004, during Zeng Qinghong and Bo Jilai's visit to South Africa, a shooting of Falun Dafa practitioners occurred, which shocked the world. The shooting resulted in one Falun Dafa practitioner from Australia having both of his feet wounded, with the bones in one of his feet being shattered. Many overseas media reported the incident. South African police have begun an investigation and have designated the case as an "attempted murder." David Liang, the victim, said to the media, "When I was in Australia, my car's rear window was smashed several times. [Before that] I had stuck a Falun Dafa sign on the window. Nothing was stolen from the car during these incidents. I felt I was being persecuted in Australia, and I felt my life was threatened. Three years ago, I went to Hong Kong, and I was one of more than twenty Australian practitioners denied entrance. Customs detained me for one day, then deported me back to Australia. I know my name is on the Party's blacklist." When he was asked, "Who would possibly want to try to kill you like this?" He said, "Probably Zeng Qinghong. He is afraid because we came to sue him for his crimes." Jiang and his followers' method for dealing with Falun Dafa practitioners is to "destroy them physically." This secret order passed down by the regime includes "deaths can be counted as suicide," and "shooting can be used to kill [them]." They even passed down a "death allowance" in each labour camp. According to a Clearwisdom report, before the 2002 Spring Festival, one of the main perpetrators in Jiang's persecution of Falun Dafa, "610 Office" Director Liu Jing, held a meeting in Nanhu Hotel of Changchun City, Jilin Province to coordinate the persecution of Falun Dafa. He was enraged and criticised Jilin Province for doing a bad job, and gave an order to "thoroughly eliminate" Falun Gong, and this directive included the order to "shoot to kill." Soon after, many reports surfaced of Falun Dafa practitioners being shot by Chinese authorities for handing out leaflets or putting up posters to expose the persecution. Over the past five years, Falun Dafa practitioners have been through a lot of hardships. The shooting in South Africa displays Jiang's state terrorism to the whole world. In order to clearly understand the state terrorism of Jiang and his regime through this specific case, it is necessary to know the whole picture of the persecution of Falun Gong. Jiang and His Group's Core Members Jiang initiated the persecution of Falun Gong suddenly without discussing it with the People's Congress or the Procurator, and without an open investigation, or a trial before a court. He used his dictatorial powers to push forward the persecution, and trampled citizens' right to freedom of belief, which is protected by the Chinese constitution. Usurping the name of the people and the government, he used the power of the Party to carry out state terrorism. Since 1999, Jiang has been the main perpetrator (the Party Secretary, the Army Chair, and the State Chair) in the persecution of Falun Dafa. His main helpers have been Luo Gan (Politburo Member, the Party Political Judiciary Secretary), Zeng Qinghong (Deputy Politburo member, the Party Personnel Minister), and Li Lanqing (Politburo Standing Committee member, Vice Premier) to name but a few. Before the persecution started, six out of seven Politburo Standing Committee members did not agree on persecuting Falun Gong; out of 22 Politburo members (including seven Standing Committee members), only Jiang and Luo Gan were eager to persecute Falun Gong (Zeng Qinghong was only a deputy Politburo member). But under high pressure from Jiang Zemin, most Politburo members and high-ranking officials have chosen to remain silent on Falun Gong issues and look the other way as Jiang and his regime commit crimes; some have even helped Jiang. Zeng Qinghong is Jiang's friend and confidante, and is in charge of the Party's internal personnel system. He is also in charge of China's Internal Information System. When Jiang runs into problems with persecuting Falun Gong from inside the Party in terms of party members having differing opinions and theoretical objections, Zeng helps resolve the issues. Zeng is known as the "dark faced killer" inside the Party. He plays a critical role in Jiang's regime and in managing the Party, the government, the army, the media, and foreign diplomacy. The spying activities of the Party have fully demonstrated its cruel nature and its willingness to gain political power through shedding blood and destroying lives. Shooting Falun Dafa practitioners is one of the means utilised in Jiang's acts of state terrorism. This shooting aimed at Falun Dafa practitioners which happened in South Africa is an extension of Jiang's persecution overseas. Jiang's State Terrorism Jiang's state terrorism has aimed at "eradicating" Falun Gong practitioners both physically and mentally, using the Party's organisation and the Chinese government. Jiang's state terrorism was truly manifested in his secret order to "ruin their reputations, bankrupt them financially, destroy them physically," which has resulted in deception, torture, and cover ups. In terms of specific conduct, Jiang's state terrorism is based on: -strict information blockade -poisoning people's minds with lies and fabrications -coercing officials, police, and common people to work for them by paying them off with promotions and financial benefits, or by threatening them -suppressing Falun Dafa practitioners by putting them under house arrest, arresting them, ransacking their homes, harassing them, putting political and financial pressure on their friends and family members, giving them prison terms, putting them through forced brainwashing, injecting them with nervous system damaging drugs, subjecting them to extremely cruel torture, and killing them. Currently, more than 100 brutal torture methods have been exposed, at least several thousand practitioners have been sent to mental hospitals to be drugged, and at least 996 practitioners of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance" are verified to have died as a result of the government's persecution, although the actual number is much higher. One of the most common methods Jiang and his followers use in the persecution against Falun Gong, is spying, through the use of direct monitoring, bugging phones, tailing, and so on. They use these inside China and overseas as well. Spying activities have resulted in many practitioners being arrested, sentenced to prison terms, or even tortured to death. For foreign practitioners in China, many incidents have been reported. For instance, Canadian citizen Fan Ziyu was harassed in Tianjin City. A Taiwanese man named Lin Hsiaokai was cornered and arrested by Shanghai State Security police, and threatened. As the Party Head of the spy agency, Zeng Qinghong cannot escape culpability. Jiang's State Terrorism Extends Overseas According to overseas media reports, after June 4th, 1989, the Party exported a large amount of spies to monitor many dissident students abroad, and this has led to Chinese spies' becoming more active abroad. Starting from the persecution of Falun Dafa in July 1999, most of these spies have begun to target Falun Dafa practitioners, and many spies focused specifically on Falun Dafa have been added. Embassy and consulate employees, together with these spies spread many of Jiang's lies overseas, and they threaten and harass overseas Falun Dafa practitioners. After Falun Dafa practitioners clarified the truth to local people and governments, these threats, harassment, and spying activities have been condemned by many countries' people and their governments. The result has been that inside the United States and Canada, where legal systems are relatively effective, the harassment and threats from Chinese embassies and spies are getting restrained. As the Australian government has been seeking economic benefits from Jiang and his followers, the Chinese spies have been active in Australia. After the South Africa shooting, Falun Dafa practitioners and the victims' family members in Australia held a press conference. Mr. Li went to South Africa together with David Liang, the victim of the shooting. His wife Li Ying revealed to the media that her husband received threatening phone calls several days before leaving for South Africa. He was going to try to compassionately persuade the caller that such devious tricks were not good. But the caller again called two hours later, so they reported it to the police. Their van had visible Falun Dafa signs on it, and was damaged two months earlier near the Chinese Embassy. Its four tires were all slashed, all its windows were smashed, and the body was spay painted. Currently, the world is watching this shooting in South Africa. Since Zeng Qinghong is the director of China's spy agency, it may be difficult for local police to solve this crime, especially as some individuals within the South African government have a close relationship with the Party. We hope the international community fully considers these factors and works together to find the perpetrator, and bring him to justice. We should seize this opportunity to eradicate terrorism form the whole world, and let justice reign.

| · Assistant Director of a "610 Office" Understands the Truth About Falun Gong
| A college classmate, who had no contact with me for seven years, called recently, saying he really wanted to see me for almost two months. I met him at a hotel and we talked about Falun Gong. Before I could clarify the truth to him about Falun Gong, he told me the following things. "I know what the TV said is all false. It is so obvious that the "Tiananmen immolation incident" is staged. I have been an assistant director in the "610 Office"(1) for two years and I know very well that those who practice Falun Gong are all good people. One time we brought thirty practitioners back from Beijing. No one said anything bad about Falun Gong. There are three bureau chiefs in our county who practice Falun Gong. In 2000, under pressure from the top, one of them was forced to read a manuscript called, "Exposing and Criticising Falun Gong." It was video taped and then sent to the bureau. These are all false." I asked him: "Did you beat those good people?" He replied, "No, actually I have let many go. Today the credibility of the television broadcasts can not be trusted. Among our old classmates, the behaviour of the numerous Falun Gong practitioners is good. Those who I have come into contact with are all good people." I told him about two other classmates of ours who were arrested, brutally beaten, and fined a lot of money repeatedly because they practice Falun Gong. One of them lost three different jobs because the bosses were afraid they would be dragged into trouble for hiring a Falun Gong practitioner. He replied to this angrily; "Jiang Zemin is so bad and sooner or later he will be punished. He does bad things and forces others to do bad things, too." Yesterday this classmate called me again. He said: "I played the Falun Gong Truth Clarification VCD in the county office. Many people were shocked, and understood the true stories. They told me to be careful." My classmate told me that he no longer works at the "610 Office." He has been promoted to a higher rank. (1) "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

| · Japan: Tourists Shocked to See Torture Exhibition
| On July the 4th 2004, Falun Gong practitioners from Osaka and the surrounding areas gathered in Osaka Park and exhibited some life-like torture methods used in the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Early in the morning, Falun Gong practitioners set up props. Actors and actresses got ready for their roles as torture victims and violent policemen. The first group of tourists who witnessed the demonstration were very shocked by the scene. They thought Falun Gong practitioners were playing a drama. When they learned that this was what was going in China in reality, many tourists signed petitions and shook their heads. They said such brutality was intolerable in the 21st century. When Falun Gong practitioners told them that the persecution, which caused all these tortures, had been launched by Jiang Zemin, tourists thought he deserved punishment. They signed their names in support of global lawsuits against Jiang and asked what else they could do to help stop the persecution. A young man from Russia told Falun Gong practitioners that he was terrified by the level of brutality even though he had lived in a similar social system. An elderly Japanese man expressed his deep sympathy to Falun Gong practitioners in China. He repeatedly asked what he could do to support Falun Gong and what he could do for Falun Gong practitioners in Japan. Upon knowing the persecution is covered up, a young lady from Norway said she would tell her family, friends and colleagues about it and help raise awareness of the persecution. A woman from Canada told practitioners that it was the first time that she had seen a torture exhibit though she had heard about the persecution. She took many pictures of the torture exhibit and asked practitioners what she could do when she went back to Canada. Falun Gong practitioners asked her to tell more kind people about the persecution. She said, "I will. I will." Many young tourists from Korea were in tears when they heard Falun Gong practitioners' explanation of the facts the persecution. When they learned what they saw was less than 1% of what is in real life, they were very worried about Falun Gong practitioners in China. Falun Gong practitioners in the exhibition put so much effort in their roles that their work brought the brutal persecution to reality for tourists from many countries. Even those practitioners who joined the exhibition later were very shaken though they had known the persecution very well. Through the torture exhibit, they called out from the bottom of their hearts: It is time to stop the five-year-long persecution! | |
| · Israel: Falun Gong Practitioners Gather at the Chinese Embassy to Protest Against the Shooting Last Week in South Africa
| Israeli Falun Gong practitioners gathered on Monday evening at the Chinese Embassy in Tel Aviv. The practitioners wanted to protest against the export of the persecution outside China by the Jiang Zemin group. The practitioners hung banners and displayed photos depicting the persecution and methods of brutal torture in China. Also among the photos were pictures of the recent assassination attempt in Pretoria. One picture showed bullets holes in the car that was shot at. Other pictures showed Mr David Liang's wounds. Mr Liang was seriously injured in both legs. Earlier that day practitioners went to the South African Embassy, to deliver a letter from the local Falun Gong Association to the Ambassador. | |

| · Stories from Ancient China: The Fate of Emperor Tai Zong Is Seen In a Dream
| Fu Yi, a Tai Shi Ling (a high-level government official position) of the Tang dynasty, was from the Tai Yuan region of China. He then moved to Fu Feng during the end of the Sui Dynasty. He was an educated and intelligent man since youth and had even studied astronomy, history and mathematics in addition to regular subjects. From the Emperor Gao Zu’s Wude Era (618 – 626 A.D.) to Emperor Tai Zong’s Zhenguan Era (626 – 649 A.D.)[1], Fu Yi had been a Tai Shi Ling for more than twenty years. He did not believe in Buddhist doctrines. He looked down on Buddhist monks and had even used terracotta Buddha statues as bricks. At that time, Fu Yi, Fu Renjun and Xue Ji all held the same position of Tai Shi Ling. Xue Ji owed Fu Renjun five thousand cents, but he failed to repay Renjun before he passed away. One night, Xue Ji had a dream involving Renjun. During this dream they chatted with each other just as they did when he was alive. Xue Ji then asked Renjun, “To whom should I pay back the money I owe you?” Renjun replied, “You can pay it to the man condemned to Ni Li.” (Note: Ni Li is an extremely appalling circle of Hell in Buddhism.) Xue Ji asked, “Who is the man condemned to Ni Li?” Renjun answered, “The Tai Shi Ling Fu Yi is the man condemned to Ni Li.” Then Xue Ji woke up. That same night, another government official named Feng Changming had a dream. In the dream, he went to a place where the dead gathered. Feng Changming asked, “According to Buddha’s scriptures, the good and the bad will be rewarded accordingly. Is this true or not?” The dead answered, “Of course it’s true.” Then Changming asked, “What will happen to someone like Fu Yi who does not believe in Buddhist scriptures after he dies?” The dead answered, “The good and the bad will surely be rewarded accordingly. As for Fu Yi, he has already been condemned to the Ni Li circle of hell.” The next morning, Feng Changming met Xue Ji in the royal court and told him about the dream he had. Xue Ji also told Changming his dream about the man condemned to Ni Li. They found to their surprise that their dreams had occurred on the same night and were very similar. Both of them came to believe that the good and the evil must be rewarded and that nobody can escape this principle. Xue Ji paid the money back to Fu Yi and told him about the dream. Several days later, Fu Yi suddenly died. On the day of his death, so many horrible things happened that they were hard to number. Fu Yi, the Tai Shi Ling, had slandered Buddha all his life and was condemned to hell to pay back his karma for slandering Buddha. Similarly, many people in China are persecuting Falun Dafa, and Falun Dafa cultivators. If these people do not stop persecuting and slandering Falun Dafa and Dafa pracititoners, one can only imagine their retribution. Source: Recording of the Underworld Retribution of the Tang Dynasty (or Ming Bao Ji in Chinese pinyin) [1] The term "era" is used to describe an East Asian imperial practice of numbering years in an emperor’s reign. It originated as a motto or slogan chosen by the emperor. Emperor Gao Zu and Emperor Tai Zong of the Tang Dynasty each reigned for an era: Wude Era (618 – 626 A.D.) and Zhenguan Era (626 – 649 A.D.) respectively. But it is very common for a Chinese emperor to have multiple eras. A similar practice was followed in the United Kingdom until quite recently. Acts of Parliament used to be dated according to the years of the reign of the reigning Monarch, so that “61 & 62 Vict c. 37” refers to the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898 passed in the session of Parliament in the 61st/62nd year of Queen Victoria. | |
