55-year-old Ms. Pan Peihua was arrested on the way to Beijing to appeal against the persecution. She refused to write the so-called "Statement of Repentance." Her family members were forced to put up 5,000 yuan as a "guarantee" to get her home. Her husband was deceived by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-Falun Gong propaganda and often beat Pan Peihua. He forced her to agree to a divorce. At the end of October 2001, her parents received a phone call from her husband, who said that Ms. Pan had committed suicide.

Mr. Ma, a Shandong Province teacher and his wife, Mrs. Dong Xiuyun, were both over 70 years old. Because they practised Falun Gong, they were arrested, detained and tortured by the Chinese Communist Party. Mr. Ma died in 2004 from persecution. Mrs. Dong is being detained in a re-education through labour camp.

"My name is Xingxing and I am 15 years old. In November 2000 the police arrested Mum when she was telling people the truth about Falun Dafa. At 2:00 a.m., a group of people suddenly broke into my bedroom and searched all over the place. They made a big mess by turning everything over. I was supposed to attend school the next morning, but did not get any sleep that night. They confiscated many items from our home. That day I truly experienced the terrifying feeling of being a robbery victim. From that day on I could no longer call out "Mum" when I returned from school. Mum was not home any longer."

In September 2004, when 56-year-old Ms. Yan Fuqin was posting leaflets exposing the persecution with two other fellow practitioners, she was reported to the police and arrested. She was soon sentenced to forced labour at Banqiao Woman's Forced Labour Camp, where the living conditions were terrible. Ms. Yan suffered from scabies all over her body. She was still forced to do hard labour until she developed late-stage breast cancer. Ms. Yan was released in July 2005 for medical care. After painful surgery, Yan Fuqin died on the morning of September 4th 2005.

"When I first arrived at the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, the guards pretended insincerely that they cared about me and wanted to help me. They asked some collaborators to "reform" me. A few days later, the guards showed their true faces. They beat me whenever they saw me meditating. They handcuffed me to a bed so that I could not stand up or squat down, and I had to stay on my knees for seven days and nights. My knees and wrists were broken, and my wrists were burned."

Mr Li Guoshun was arrested in August 2004 while he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. He protested the persecution by starting a hunger strike and was persecuted to death on October 14th. The local officials and police intentionally delayed his treatment and tried very hard to shift the responsibility and cover up their criminal acts. One police officer said that Li Guoshun's death served him right.

"My son, Wu Chunlong, was born on December 11th 1976. In 2003 he started working in a barbershop. Simply because he persisted in practising Falun Gong, he was twice detained in a forced labour camp. Wu Chunlong was put in the Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp for three years, where he was severely tortured. One time in the winter, when the temperature was -20 C, the police dragged him outside, took off all of his clothes, poured cold water on his body and left him outdoors in the freezing temperatures for over two hours. His third year in the labour camp he was handcuffed for the entire year. When he was released his health was serious, yet police came to my home and traumatised him once again. Wu Chunlong's situation became more serious day after day and I didn't have the money for medical treatment. At 2 o'clock in the morning on August 20th 2005 he left this world."

The police detained 62-year-old Ms. Yuan Yuju and sentenced her to one year in Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp. As soon as her daughter, US citizen, Ms. Liang Zhen received the news, she expressed her intent to hire a lawyer on her mother's behalf. She will also try everything she can to have her mother and older brother released.

Ms. Gao Guiqin was a 69-year-old professor employed at the Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute. She first learned Falun Dafa in 1995, went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Dafa in 1999, and was detained. In July 2003, she was reported for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. She was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labour. After four months in the labour camp, her blood pressure suddenly became very high, and she had to be released on medical parole. Outside the camp, she lived while hooked up to a monitoring system and was unable to practise normally, which caused her physical condition to deteriorate. She died on July 20th 2005, only few days after her term had ended.

Ms. Chen Aihong, fifty-three years old, was taken to Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp for imprisonment on March 15th 2005. The physical examination showed that she suffered from severe heart disease. Her heart rate was 137 times per minute. The electrocardiogram showed that her heart muscle was seriously short of blood and she should not do heavy labour. After hearing this, the head of the group Wei Hongling often verbally abused her. One night in the middle of June, Chen Aihong was meditating. Police Tian Zili pulled the bed sheet out from under her, whipped her face and head violently and beat her down to the bed. Tian Zili started to shout at her, "If you meditate again tomorrow, I'm going to kill you on the spot." As a result of the persecution, Chen suffered from a relapse of heart disease and incontinence.

The number of Falun Gong practitioners confirmed dead as a result of the persecution reached 2,781 on August 31st 2005. Among the 61 practitioners, 25 or 41% of the total were women, and 33 or 54% of the total were above 50 years of age. Twenty-eight of the deaths occurred in 2005, including six in August 2005. The youngest victim was 21 years old.

Mr. Yang Guang, 50 is currently being held in Jilin Prison's "naked district," where he is not ever allowed to wear trousers and suffers humiliation and misery in the company of psychotic, disabled inmates. Due to torture, his right leg is disabled, his toes are deformed and festering, and he can no longer take care of himself. He is fifty years old but looks like a frail old man with his white hair and emaciated body. He is surrounded by urine, faeces and filthy smells continuously.

After starting to practise Falun Gong, Ms. Li Yangfang, a formerly seriously ill person, she then became healthy and kind. After the persecution of Falun Gong began, she was subjected to severe torture several times. In 2003, she was unjustly detained in Sichuan Province Zizhong Women's Labour camp. Due to her severe torture injuries, even the hospital refused to admit her.

After Mr. Miao started practising Falun Gong in 1997, his heart disease, lung disease, and oesophageal cancer all went away. After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20th 1999, officials often went to Mr. Miao's home to harass and threaten him. This caused him to live under a cloud of constant fear. He developed depression, and his health condition became worse and worse. Mr. Miao died in March 2005.

Li Jun, head of the National Security Division at the Huanan County Police Station in Heilongjiang Province, and his subordinates have been constantly and illegally arresting and sending Falun Gong practitioners to prisons and forced labour camps for several years. Between January and August 2005, eleven Dafa practitioners and their family members were arrested and subjected to extortion.

72-year-old Ms. Chen Songnan, was a Dafa practitioner from Sichuan Province. She was the widow of Song Shiyun, former Deputy President of the Southwest Finance and Economics University. Before learning Falun Dafa, she had many illnesses, and she weighed only 77 lbs. After cultivating in Falun Dafa, all of her diseases disappeared and her body weight increased to 110 lbs. In December 2003, she was arrested by police and detained in a brainwashing class by the 610 Office. Since she persisted in cultivating Dafa and refused to compromise she was persecuted to death.

Ms. Xiao Jizhen was eighty-one years old. In March 2001, her eldest daughter went out to expose the truth of the persecution, and she was arrested and sent to jail. Knowing what had happened to her daughter put tremendous mental pressure on Xiao Xuizhen. In addition, national security officers went to her home and harassed her, and sent her daughter to a forced labour camp, where she was tortured until she suffered a mental collapse. Personnel from the forced labour camp notified her family to take her back home when she was in critical condition. Xiao Jizhen was in extreme grief when she saw her daughter's condition. She tripped and fell at home on April 10th 2004, and passed way on April 14th 2004.

Ms. Zhao Shuyun was imprisoned in the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province because she practises Falun Dafa. Ms. Zhao felt she should not be detained at the labour camp, as it was not a crime to practise "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," and refused to wear the prison uniform. On July 7th 2005, Ms. Zhao was told to go to Captain Zhang Xiurong's office. Over two and a half hours later, Ms. Zhao left the office wearing a prison uniform and with bruises all over her body. She also had lost a lot of her hair and her regular clothes, including her underwear, were torn. Ms. Zhao was severely traumatised both physically and mentally after being violently abused and humiliated. She was at the edge of collapse. She ached badly all over and felt dizzy.

42-year-old Ms. Ren Shujie suffered long-term inhuman torture for persisting in her belief and telling people the truth about Falun Dafa. By the time she was released from Masanjia Forced Labour Camp on December 24th 2004, she was extremely weak and emaciated. At 11:15 PM on September 1st 2005. Ms. Ren passed away.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Fengyun was tortured to death on August 11th 2001 by the Lanzhou City No. 1 Custodial Centre for her determination in practising Falun Dafa. Her son Xing Jun was only 14 years old at that time. He was forced to drop out of school and is now earning only 100 yuan a month, which is barely enough to survive on.

In December 2000, 70 year old Mr. Sun and his wife went to Beijing to appeal and were arrested in Tiananmen Square. In order to force them to expose their identities, the most typical torture used was "ice freezing." In the freezing cold winter, the policemen forced him to stand in the snow with only a shirt on him from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. In the afternoon, the policemen stripped off his shirt and a couple of people took turns splashing cold water on him. After a short time, Mr. Sun was covered in ice from head to toe. He fainted. A policeman said, "If you die from being frozen, you die for nothing. Your body will be thrown away after you die. Nobody takes care of it. We have thrown away several bodies already."

In June 2005 Ma Yongyue was arrested at the local market and given no reason for his arrest. Police took him to a detention centre, where he was physically abused. On July 10th 2005, Ma Yongyue was unjustly sentenced to three years in prison by a local court and his family didn't receive any notification regarding the trial.. Ma Yongyue didn't accept the verdict of the court and filed an appeal to a higher court to request unconditional release.

Life for ten-year-old Zhang Jiarui in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province is very difficult as his father is unjustly held in a labour camp. Cheng Qinglan, the boy's mother, divorced his father, Zhang Bin, in November 1997. Zhang Bin, whose son lived with him, started practising Falun Gong in early 1998, and he quit those unhealthy habits and started taking his responsibility toward his son Zhang Jiarui seriously. He persisted in practising Falun Gong and for the past six years has been persecuted. His workplace illegally cancelled his work contract. Zhang Bin was forced to move out of his home with his son who was five years old at the time. The father was abducted for the second time in December 2004 and is currently being persecuted at the Suihua Forced Labour Camp.

Ms. Kuang Yuliang, who was around 50, started practising Falun Dafa in 1997. In 2000 and 2001, she was arrested several times for exposing the truth of the persecution of Falun Dafa. She was also detained twice for more than six months each time. In addition, police extorted 8000 yuan from Ms. Kuang. In the Nanqiang Brainwashing Centre, Ms. Kuang was charged 30 yuan per day for meals, but she was only given a bowl of watery porridge each day. For four months straight, the guards did not allow her to wash her face or bathe. Ms. Kuang was cuffed continuously to the window in the brainwashing class for five months. Only her toe tips touched the floor. Guard Li Xu threatened Ms. Kuang to give up her belief in Falun Dafa. When Ms. Kuang said no or refused to respond, Xu forcefully kicked her. Since Ms. Kuang was firm in her belief, she got kicked so much that the injuries on her legs did not heal before she passed away. She was badly emaciated when she was finally released. The police often harassed her at home and prohibited her from going outside. Ms. Kuang passed away on June 14th 2005.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Dafa in 1999, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms Ouyang Youhua was persecuted by officials from the Guiyang 610 Office. Ouyang Youhua suffered illegal imprisonment, torture and forced labour. She was monitored, threatened and fined. Her daughter was detained for 15 days, and her husband, Li Jinbao, was sentenced to 3 years in a forced labour camp in 2002. Ouyang Youhua's mental and physical health plummeted under the long-term persecution. She passed away after suffering a sudden stroke on June 9th 2005.

51-year-old Mr. Liu Jianhua used to suffer from gastric pain and severe headaches. He tried many types of medical treatments and medicine but did not find any overall improvement. In 1996, through the practice of Falun Dafa, he was miraculously restored to good health. In 1999, on the afternoon of July 20th when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong, local police took Mr. Liu from his home to the detention centre for interrogation. He was released on the next day. However Mr. Liu was traumatised by these incidents. His bodily condition became worse day by day. Subsequently, he continued to receive threats, and was subjected to manipulation, surveillance, and restriction of visitors. He eventually suffered from a relapse of his earlier medical problems and died on April 17th 2005.

Wu Chunlong, a 30-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Heilongjiang Province, was tortured to the verge of death and mental disorder. He was sent back home on April 30th 2005 by officials from the Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp but was kept under surveillance by local police. He finally died from the lasting effects of the persecution on August 20th 2005. Another practitioner, also detained, recounted, "At about 9:00 A.M. on March 17th 2005, when we were picking beans, Wu Chunlong was taken out by the policemen. A few minutes later, we heard the loud noise of someone being beaten and Wu Chunlong shouting "Falun Dafa is good." Nearly 20 minutes later, we could not hear anything more."

Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Yang Guang is currently being held in Jilin Prison. He has been tortured to near paralysis and is on the verge of death. Authorities have refused to allow Mr. Yang's family to visit him. They even attempted to destroy evidence of their crime by murdering him. Mr. Yang's legs were crippled. His toes had severe infections and were disfigured. He was unable to take care of himself. His hair was grey and he was skinny. Because he firmly refused to follow his persecutors' orders, the inmates and the prison police tortured him to the extent where he was reduced to a mere skeleton. In the "Nudity Section," Mr. Yang was not allowed to wear trousers or underwear because the lower part of his body was paralysed and he could not control his body functions. Their living conditions are dreadful. The place provided for them to sleep is less than 60 cm. and their food is terrible.

"My husband Zhang Zhagen was a 52-year-old practitioner. Before his death, he was an employee of the Kaifeng City Bus Team for Foreign Tourists. After he started to practise Falun Gong, he was recognised many times as an outstanding employee and model worker. From his actions, it was obvious that he cared a great deal for others. He loved his children and was respectful toward his parents. However, such a good person believing in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" was detained and tortured to death by the Kaifeng City Forced Labour Camp, for exposing the truth of the persecution about Falun Gong to people and speaking out for justice."

Mr. Zhang Siyou and Ms. Zhang Meishan, both from Shouguang City, Shandong Province, suffered constant persecution ever since the Communist Party started its campaign against Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang died on August 9th 2001, and Ms. Zhange died on January 8th 2005. Mr. Zhang witnessed his daughter's arrest and saw her being brutally beaten, just for practising Falun Dafa. He became severely depressed and developed liver cancer. In the past few years, Ms. Zhang Meishan suffered intense mental pressure, and she died suddenly on January 8th 2005.

On June 27th 2005, police ransacked the home of Mr. Chen Zhengheng and his wife Ms. Huang Jinlian. They also arrested Ms. Huang and took her to the Police Department, claiming someone reported her to the police for Falun Gong activities. Although they did not find any evidence they still sent her to a detention centre. Mr. Chen was visiting his hometown at the time. After Mr. Chen returned from the trip, he was very upset and in deep grief upon finding that his wife had been arrested. His old illness recurred, and he was sent to hospital. A medical rescue failed, and he passed away on July 10th 2005. The officials did not release Ms. Huang until Mr. Chen was dying.

"The policemen lit nylon ropes and allowed the flaming plastic to drip on my arms. My hands and arms were covered with blisters due to the burning, and many scars were left after the blisters were gone. During the daytime, they ordered eight people to beat me. They asked me whether I would continue to practise Falun Gong. I would say yes, and they would slap my face with the sole of a shoe. Every inch of my body had been struck at some point. When the policemen saw that I was not afraid of death, and that they could never "transform" me, they gave up. On January 26th 2005, I finally went back home."

Practitioner Ms. Chen Meili is in her sixties. She is the chief physician at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi Medical University. The Xihu District Court of Nanchang City sentenced her last year to 8 years in prison because she practises Falun Gong. Those responsible ignored the fact that Ms. Chen suffered from high blood pressure, and put her in the forced labour camp hospital. Now, due to the persecution, she has lost the sight in both of her eyes.

Ms. Zhao Huixiang was a Falun Gong practitioner who suffered a mental collapse due to the tortures she experienced in detention. She would scream whenever someone knocked on the door. Her family sent her to a mental hospital yet treatment did not cure her. On March 31st 2003, when Zhao Huixiang was home alone, she jumped from the sixth floor. She died on the way to the hospital.

16-year-old Ms. Sun Yanpei, a student from the No. 1 High School of Zhaoyuan City has been held by the "610 Office" for more than two weeks. She is currently being detained in an isolated building of the Nanling Southern Gold Mine in Taishang Village, Linglong Town. In order to conceal their illegal activities, the authorities have labelled the building as the "Legal Education and Training Centre," but it is actually a brainwashing centre where Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted.

Sixty-five-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Jinrong from Pulandian City, Dalian was persecuted for a long time for her belief in Falun Dafa, a practice which had made her live a fuller life. She was traumatised by the death of her son Cao Yuqiang in 2004 who was first tortured to disability whilst being illegally detained. Ms. Zhang Jinrong passed away on August 23rd 2005 leaving behind her husband and nine-year-old grandson.

Ms. Yu Yali is on the brink of death! The former judicial representative of Xinhuo Surface Materials Technology Limited Company of Jinan City, Yu Yali was sentenced to seven years imprisonment on November 16th 2004, and is currently imprisoned in the Shandong Province Women's Prison. She has been forced into slave labour for her refusal to give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," and is on a hunger strike to protest the inhumane persecution. Her weight has dropped from 132 pounds to 77 pounds . Her mother hopes that more righteous voices and media within China and overseas will sound their concern about Ms. Yu's persecution.

"When I was in the Strictly Controlled Team, Zeng Zhiping from Tongnan County asked me, "Oh! how did you come to look like this?" I said, "Zhang Liang sent me to a labour camp. Policemen and convicts in the Xishanping Labour Camp abused and brutalised me. My condition is proof." Zeng Zhiping looked surprised. When I was sent back to Tongnan County, Zeng said, "You stay here for several days, then you can go home." But I was delivered to a custodial centre and detained there. Liu Yong came to visit. When he saw me he said, "How come you look so old?" On the morning of March 5th I began a hunger strike. Vicious officers said, "As soon as you eat and write a guarantee statement, you can go home.""

12-year-old Li Yujuan is now without anyone to care for her because her family practises Falun Gong. Her father and uncle have been sentenced to long prison terms. The authorities forced her mother to leave the family. Feeling sorrow and regret, her grandfather passed away. Yujuan's grandmother cannot even care of herself because she is nearly blind.

Mr. Zhao Jinwang was 47 years old. He started cultivating Falun Dafa in 1994, and benefited from the practice very much. He went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa on April 25th and July 20th 1999. Afterwards he was constantly harassed by the Beijing 610 Office, and by the police. He was arrested and taken to a city brainwashing centre in August 1999, and released after 24 days. He was also detained one month in October 2000. Ever since then, the 610 Office and the police continued coming to his home to harass him, and attempt to force him to give up cultivation. This badly damaged his vitality and spirit. He became sick with cancer in 2004, and died in August 2005.

68-year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Zemin was a retired employee of Anqiu City Light Industry Machinery Factory located in Shandong Province. Because he kept his faith in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," his employer mistreated and persecuted him. On many occasions officials from his workplace went to Mr. Li's home to harass him and his family, and to scare them into giving up cultivation. They had his son and daughter fired from their jobs at the factory, and forced them stay at home to watch their father every day, not allowing him to even step outside. Long-term persecution led both his mind and body to be severely damaged. Doctors discovered liver cancer in March 2004 and he died on August 9th 2004.

Mr. Jin Sheng, from Daqing City, began practising Falun Dafa in May 2000. When the Jiang Zemin regime began its persecution of Falun Dafa, his faith in Falun Dafa never wavered. Near the end of 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, and was arrested for exposing the truth of the persecution. In prison, because he refused to cooperate with unjust demands to give up practising Falun Dafa, he was brutally tortured by the police from Beijing, Zhaozhou, and Daqing City. For more than three years, Mr. Jin Sheng has suffered from all kinds of cruel tortures. As a result, his current health condition is poor and his life is in grave danger.

Mr. Yuan Qingjiang was transferred to the Daqing Prison from the Harbin Prison in July 2004. When he arrived he was already injured from brutal tortures at Harbin Prison. Doctors diagnosed him with "dual lung hematogenous pulmonary tuberculosis." On July 23rd 2005, after enduring long-term hideous torture he continued to lose weight and his health deterioated daily, he was tortured to death.

Abandoned by her parents after she was born, Lu Tianjiao was cared for by her grandmother for more than ten years. Her 65-year-old grandmother will never return. Shi Shengying was tortured to death on August 25th 2005. At the cremation memorial, her family saw wounds on her neck, chest and in her rib area. When her family wanted to take pictures, the police quickly grabbed the camera and shouted, "We can't let you take pictures.

The authorities in Heilongjiang have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners severely. Since July 20th 1999, the number of practitioners who have died as a direct result of the persecution has reached 336. This number has been confirmed, and the practitioners' names and the persecution details have been verified. These deaths represent the second largest number of all the provinces in China.

"The two years of savage beatings and other abuses and mental torment at the hands of common prisoners and the guards in Xinshanping Forced Labour Camp gave me a broken nose, broken front teeth and severe injuries to my chest, ribs and internal organs. I was so weak and thin. But even in that condition, after my release from the forced labour camp I was still sent to the Tongnan Detention Centre for an indefinite period of incarceration."

Two years ago, Ms. Xue Xia, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Hebei Province, was persecuted to death at the Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. Xue Xia suffered tremendously from torture in the forced labour camp. She was beaten, shocked with an electric baton, and deprived of sleep. She was forced to take a tablet, known as a brainwashing pill, because it weakens the patient, and produces a loss of appetite and loose bowels. Xue Xia was tortured to the verge of death, and camp officials feared she would die while in custody so they released her. However, she died in hospital in February 2003. She left behind a son and a daughter. Because their mother was a Falun Dafa practitioner, the children have been denied all care and support.

On August 12th 2005, officials of the "610 Office" abducted 16-year-old Ms Sun Yanpei from her class in high school and confined her in a brainwashing centre just because she practises Falun Gong. Her father has been detained at the Shandong Province Prison while her mother has been forced to live in away from home for the past four years, leaving young Sun Yanpei at home by herself. Because of her illegal abduction, confinement, and attempts to shake her belief, Sun Yanpei is protesting with a hunger strike that has already lasted for several days. She is in dire need of urgent rescue.

"I was detained and brutally tortured in the 5th and 1st brigades at Changlinzi Forced Labour Camp. In the end, my heart disease recurred due to the persecution. Because the labour camp officials do not care about human life, they agreed to release me only after two more deaths were registered. After two more deaths they would have reached their allowable quota for deaths, and to avoid having to answer for my death, they said they would release me. I experienced 20 different torture methods in the Camp."

"I was arrested and held at the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp for two years and was subjected to 26 different kinds of torture: I was tied up. The guard then elbowed my spine with brute force and punched my chest heavily with his fists. I had to stand in the military posture, sit upright and march using three different kinds of steps; I was exposed to mosquitoes, was forced to carry sandbags, stand against a wall, run on the drill ground, do push-ups, jump like a frog, walk like a duck and stand in sweltering heat; the perpetrators choked me and hit my face until my front teeth were broken; they force-fed me, pulled my ears, hit and broke my nose; they hit me with spiked clubs and jammed their knees into my sides; they starved me and forced me to squat. I was emaciated and was force-fed three times (twice the force-feeding caused hemorrhaging and I was rushed to the Accident and Emergency). I was on the brink of death. More than 50 different perpetrators personally tortured me."
