December 2003

MEP Condemns Human Rights Violations Initiated by the Former President of China [26.12.2003]

"Jiang Zemin should be held responsible for the human rights violations that occurred during his time in power. Jiang's case has also become a clear message to the present leader of China, which is China must make an immediate correction of its policy of persecuting Falun Gong in order to fulfil the requirements of the International Human Rights criterion."

Speech by John Bowis MEP at a Falun Gong Press Conference in Strasbourg [23.12.2003]

"What was clear was that in its early days, the Chinese authorities actually encouraged it. It was seen as something not threatening; it was seen as something healthy that contributed to the wellbeing of people. And then they got cold feet, and thought that perhaps this was leading to some self-expression that went beyond the wishes of the regime. I think that was very sad. Because China is a very big country, to be part of a country, it does not need to suppress the instincts and wishes of individuals and groups and minorities."

Speech by Roger Helmer MEP at a Falun Gong Press Conference in the European Court of Human Rights [22.12.2003]

"I have been speaking to representatives of Falun Gong over the last three or four years. I have been briefed on the sort of persecution that the Chinese practitioners of Falun Gong have faced on the Chinese mainland and I think nobody can hear those stories without being very distressed and saddened, both for the individual suffering of those people and also for the fact that in China there appears to be no freedom to practise religion and no freedom to take an alternative view."

Scottish MP Calls for an End to the Persecution of Falun Dafa on World Human Rights Day [10.12.2003]

"I very much share your concern at the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and agree that more action should be taken by the UN and its leading members to highlight this and bring pressure on the Chinese authorities to cease their disgraceful activities."

A Letter from the Chairperson of the Association for Threatened People – "To file a lawsuit against China’s former leader, Jiang Zemin, is a crucial step in bringing human rights abusers to justice." [07.12.2003]

"At the moment, it is still not optimistic to expect China to become a country ruled by law. When security members and state agents violate human rights, citizens are not likely to be protected by the law. As a result, people are calling on the international community to bring China’s human rights abusers to justice by taking legal action. The Association for Threatened People, in particular, expresses our support for any legal action to bring the evildoers, including China’s former leader, to court."

Ireland: Irish Student Organisations Appeal for Falun Gong Practitioners Suffering Persecution in China [02.12.2003]

The rally was followed by a march to the Irish Prime Minister’s Office, where representatives of eight Students’ Unions and Societies from USI and major Dublin universities handed in a co-signed letter. They then went on to the Chinese Embassy to hand in a letter appealing for justice but the Embassy officials refused to accept it.

Letter from Dublin Students to the Irish Prime Minister: "Ireland should do all in its power to help bring this absurd persecution to an early end." [30.11.2003]

"The campaign directed at eradicating Falun Gong is a systematic state terrorism and a policy that has drained China's fragile economy. The assurances given in the EU China dialogue over the past few years have changed nothing on the ground; everyday new death cases are being received. The Chinese consulates and officials even continue to spread slanderous material concerning Falun Gong in the hope that this will incite hatred or at least doubt in the minds of overseas politicians. Indeed politicians in Ireland have received such material. Their aim is clear: To justify their campaign against the practice so that they can continue their brutal suppression and genocide while escaping condemnation from the international community."

November 2003

Letter to a Practitioner from the Chief of the Human Rights Department of the Finnish Foreign Ministry [27.11.2003]

"The Finnish government has continued to pay close attention to human rights situation in China. "Action of Christians for the Abolition of Torture" Urgently Appeals for the Release of Dafa Practitioner Liu Chengjun [15.11.2003]

"...on the 24th March 2002, Cheng Jun Liu was again brutally arrested by the police. State employees beat his cousin until he divulged, under torture, Cheng’s hiding place. They then set fire to the woodpile where the latter was hiding and made him come out. Although he was already tied hand and foot they shot him twice in his thighs. After undergoing more ill treatment in a police hospital, Cheng Liu was transferred to a detention centre at Tiebei where he was tortured continuously for 52 days with the aim of extracting a “confession” from him. He was then condemned to 19 years’ imprisonment..."

Swedish MEP's Message at the Opening of a Falun Gong Exhibition in Mora [11.11.2003]

"As a member of the European Parliament and the Swedish State Committee, my attention has on several occasions been drawn to the infringement and mistreatment of Christians and Falun Gong practitioners within the oppressing dictatorship of China. It is a matter of direct persecution, where many people have lost their innocent lives. Let us all think about those who have sacrificed, who have been victimised for believing in freedom and the right to choose their religion, theory of life, belief and form of meditation. With deep respect for those people who are suffering, and with hope that this exhibition at the Mora house of culture will attract many visitors and receive great appreciation, I send my heartfelt greetings to you all."

Therefore I am interested in helping you in your legal battle against Luo Gan, if a suitable opportunity arises."

An Interview with a Representative of the European Branch of WOIPFG [06.11.2003]

"From the standpoint of the WOIPFG, the lawsuits have brought condemnation of the persecution from a moral level to a legal level. This is exactly the purpose of this organisation. Just like World War II war criminals, even tens of years after their crimes they still have to face trial in court if apprehended. This is international justice. We don’t think that we have to wait that long. This determination to legally deal with all of these crimes will shock the perpetrators. It would be best if we could stop their actions and let people in China and other countries know that the persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang and his accomplices is a serious criminal act."

As a result, Jiang Zemin was so afraid of Falun Gong that he used weapons, and he used scoundrel tactics to start the bloody persecution of Falun Gong, the worst persecution in history. Statistics show that there are over 700 practitioners who have been brutally tortured to death."

Spain: Clarifying the Truth to Amnesty International Before Filing the Lawsuit Against Jiang and Luo [01.11.2003]

"The intention to sue Jiang is not to win the case but to let more people know about the evilness of the persecution and to let more people know about the truth in order to stop this persecution. This persecution isn’t just aimed at Falun Gong practitioners, but it’s also aimed at humankind’s precious morality and the principles of the universe. Therefore, the victims of this persecution are not only Falun Gong practitioners, but people throughout the world."

Since 1999, the Chinese government has begun a systematic suppression of Falun Gong believers. Both Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have pointed out that these illegal acts exist in China.

Various media organisations continued to report on the news for days. Message from a Swedish Member of Amnesty International: “You have done very well. I wish you success!” [05.10.2003]

In China, "people are being killed because they appeal to the government and because they are part of a peaceful group. In the distant land of Sweden, the Chinese Consul is using the ship from Guangzhou that is sailing to Gothenburg as an excuse to not let us speak and is also telling the local radio station to follow in the footsteps of the Chinese consulate and change what they broadcast. This was a threat and the consulate should be punished."

French MP Jean Tiberi: "The Suppression Is Totally Abject" [04.10.2003]

"Your letter of the 23rd of July last drew my attention to Falun Gong, a traditional Chinese qigong freely practised by 100 million people worldwide. Unfortunately, it is not the same story in China. This organisation, that has no legal foundation, is similar to Nazi Germany’s Gestapo and also the teams during China’s Cultural Revolution. Because of the special status and function of the “610 Office”, it should be held responsible for the illegal deeds of death, torture, arbitrary detention, ‘education’ through labour, as well as sentences and fines that are common with the persecution of Falun Gong.
