Arrested While Visiting a Friend, Chifeng Woman Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

Ms. Zhang Cuimin from the Hongshan District in Chifeng was seized by Liu Long and other officers from the Songshan District Domestic Security Division when she went to visit a friend. She was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Songshan District Court in Chifeng.

Ms. Li Yuzhi from the Hongshan District was arrested and her home was ransacked on February 29th, 2012. When the police were ransacking her home, her daughter, Yang Yurong, brought her good friend Zhang Cuimin home to visit. Ms. Yang and Ms. Zhang were also taken away by Liu Long and other officers. Liu Long handcuffed Ms. Zhang behind her back and pushed her down on a sofa in Ms. Li's home. He pointed at Ms. Zhang's forehead and said, “I will deal with you!”

Ms. Zhang and Ms. Yang are being detained in the Songshan District Detention Centre. Ms. Yang is facing trial. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to seven years in prison and will be sent to the Huhehate Women's Prison soon.

Since 2012, Chifeng police have continually harassed, arrested, and tortured Falun Gong practitioners. According to available statistics, in a span of three months, 14 practitioners have been arrested, interrogated, and tortured and their homes ransacked. Even more practitioners and their relatives have been harassed. They are all being detained in the Songshan District Detention and the Hongshan District Detention Centre. They are forced to pick beans and do hard labour. They work long hours with very limited rest time.
