November 4th was the date when Ms. Zheng Cuifang finished her two-year forced labour term. However, officers from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Nantong City and the Zhongxiu Town government personnel transferred her from the labour camp to a brainwashing centre located at the Beige Hotel.

Ms. Zheng, 50, is from Beiguoxin Village, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. She is regarded as a very good person in her neighbourhood and work unit. Just because she practises Falun Gong, she was persecuted many times.

From 2001 to 2002, she was held in a forced labour camp by officers from the 610 Office in Nantong City, the Domestic Security Division and the Police Department and it led to her divorce. Ms. Zheng became homeless when she was released. She tried to stay in the house she and her ex-husband built. Her ex-husband collaborated with the officers and took her to a brainwashing centre.

In the second half of 2009, Ms. Zheng was arrested by officers from the 610 Office in Nantong City as she was heading back to her hometown. She was ordered to serve two years of forced labour.

In Jiangsu Province Women's Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Zheng was forced to participate in “training” every day. Guards only allowed her to sleep for one hour, and inmates kicked and beat her any time they wanted to. They put a piece of paper between the upper part of one leg and the lower part of the other leg, demanding that she raise one of her legs to a very high level. If the paper fell, they would beat her.

Ms. Zheng went on a hunger strike to protest the abuse, but the police designated inmates, including drug offenders and gamblers, to beat and torture her. During her hunger strike, she was dragged from the third to the first floor many times. She was covered with bloodstains from being dragged. Within several months, she became very thin. Her original weight was around 165 lb.

The guards humiliated her in many ways. During March and April 2010, the guards forced her to undergo “naked inspections.” She was also ordered to take off all her clothes and lie on the cold cement tiles.

Ms. Zheng has been held in the Beige Hotel brainwashing centre for more than a month now.
