Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Hu Fengkui, an older man from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, passed away on July 7th. He was arrested and detained three times, and twice sent to forced labour camps, for a total of four years. He died at the age of 68.

Mr. Hu began practising Falun Gong in 1996. Before that, he suffered from many recurring and chronic diseases, like diabetes, hypopotassemia, skin diseases, etc. After practising Falun Gong for three days, all of his illnesses were healed, which saved a lot of medical fees for himself and for the government.

Since July 1999, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the genocidal persecution of Falun Gong, people who worked in the Liuhua Community Sub-district Office in Jinzhou, Railway Construction Community Residential Committee and Liuhua Police Station, often went to Mr. Hu's home and harassed him. On the eve of the 2000 New Year, these people deployed outside his apartment to monitor him for a whole night.

In June 2000, Mr. Hu went to Beijing to appeal for the rights of Falun Gong and was arrested. In the Jinzhou Detention Centre, he went on a hunger strike to protest and was released after six days. However, twenty days later, Gao Fengting, a policeman from the Liuhua Police Station, arrested Mr. Hu from his home and imprisoned him in the Second Detention Centre. After two months, he was sent to the Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp to serve a three-year term. The guards there were very cruel to Falun Gong practitioners and forced them to give up their belief by brainwashing and torturing them. Mr. Hu was held in the camp for 14 months.

In July 2002 at noon, several police cars were parked in front of Mr. Hu's apartment, and more than 20 plainclothes policemen from the Liuhua Police Station closely deployed around the building. Several policemen knocked on the door and falsely told the family that they merely wanted to know more about Mr. Hu. They responded that if they just wanted to know more about him, why would they send over 20 policemen? The family therefore refused to open the door, having recognised their lies. Sun Zhi'an, Chief of the Political and Judiciary Committee, ordered them to open the door. The family seized the doorknob, and the policemen smashed the lock off. The family then bolted the door with a steel bar. The deadlock lasted for a long time before the policemen withdrew, leaving only a few police outside the apartment to monitor it.

For about a month Mr. Hu couldn't go outside because of the monitoring. The policemen weren't able to arrest Mr. Hu, but they went to his work unit and conspired with his boss to stop Mr. Hu's pension. This was to force him to go to the department so that they would have the opportunity to send him to a brainwashing centre and persecute him. With this situation, Mr. Hu went to Beijing to ask for justice, but was arrested on the way by policemen in the Jinzhou 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). He was again sent to the Jinzhou Forced Labour Camp for three years.

In the autumn of 2002, Mr. Hu was transferred to the Second Ward because he resisted the brainwashing. Guard Zhang Chunfeng didn't at all lessen the persecution against him because he was an older man. He and several other guards handcuffed Mr. Hu against the heating pipe so that he couldn't stand up or kneel down. The guards also took turns to deprive him of sleep. In March 2003, guard Yan Guosheng told him in a ferocious way, “Our dean instructed us in the meeting that we can beat you as much as we want, just so we don't kill or disable you.”

In the labour camp, the guards used a table to push Mr. Hu into a corner and force him to touch the high-voltage electric baton. They also forced him to squat on a small one square foot ground tile to deprive him of sleep. Mr. Hu suffered both physically and mentally, which caused his health problems to relapse and he had difficulty walking. At the same time, he developed a skin disease which itched a lot.

In late 2005 after Mr. Hu was released, he could only walk with a cane at home. Through practising Falun Gong, he recovered little by little. However, as the persecution continued, it put great mental pressure on him. He was depressed and afraid constantly until he passed away.
