The Ruichang Police Department in Jiangxi Province arrested 13 Falun Gong practitioners within the past three months.

On May 21st, Ms. Zhu Xiaomei and Ms. Liu Juzhen, practitioners from the pier region of Ruichang were posting signs and explaining the facts about Falun Gong in Sanyanqiao, Xiafan County. They were reported to the authorities by a local resident who held misconceptions about Falun Gong due to rumours spread by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). They were arrested by agents from the so-called Sanyanqiao Law Enforcement Team and officers from Sanyanqiao Police Station. Later, police ransacked their homes. During their detention, CCP officials extorted 10,000 yuan1 from each family. They were released on June 5th, but have been under surveillance since then.

On May 31st, practitioner Liang Zhong from Wuliqiao, Ruichang, was arrested while he was explaining the facts about Falun Gong to people. He was arrested by officers from Saihu Police Station in Ruichang. His family refused extortion attempts by police officials, so he wasn't released. The police threatened that he wouldn't be released unless he identified three other Falun Gong practitioners. He refused, and was subsequently sentenced on June 10th by Ruichang City Police Department authorities to a term of forced labour. Mr. Liang was then taken to the Jiujiang Majialong Labour Camp and subjected to further persecution.

On the evening of June 12th, He Shengxiang, Ms. Zhu Haixia and Ms. Shi Lipin, all practitioners from Jiujiang County, were arrested by three officers from the Pencheng Police Station while they were posting materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in downtown Ruichang. The three policemen were Tan Jun, Ding Xiao, and Cao Dayong. The three practitioners were tortured at the police station.

On June 13th, practitioner Mr. Huang Xianfa along with the detained practitioners' families went to the police station to request the release of the three detained practitioners. Mr. Huang was beaten by the police officers, and dragged to the second floor. He has been detained there since that time. On July 8th, Huang Xianfa was taken to the Jiujiang Majialong Labour Camp. Without cause, the police also handcuffed Ms. Shi Lipin's husband Li Pingsuo and son Li Handing, and then detained them in the police station. The police did not provide any justification, nor did they notify their family of the detention. They are currently being held in the Ruichang Detention Centre. Police officials falsified accusations against He Shengxiang, Ms. Zhu Haixia, Mr. Li Pingsuo, and Mr. Li Handing. The accusation documentation was delivered to the Ruichang Supreme People’s Procuratorate.

On the evening of July 11th, six practitioners from Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province were arrested while they were posting truth-clarification materials. The six practitioners include: Deng Xiaoyan, Zhang Daidi, Zhou Meili, Rao Fenglan, and Huang Zhengming from Jiujiang, and Han Yuming from Lushan. According to one source, this arrest was systematically planned and directed by the Ruichang Police Bureau. Other units involved in the arrest include: Ruichang Domestic Security Division, Pencheng Police Station, Wuliqiao Police Station and Saihu Police Station.

Currently, Han Yuming, Zhou Meili, and Zhang Daidi are being held in the Jiujiang Detention Centre. Deng Xiaoyan and Rao Fenglan are being held in the Ruichang Detention Centre. Huang Zhengming was taken to the Jiujiang Detention Centre. Since he didn't pass the physical examination, he was taken to the Ruichang Detention Centre, where he was rejected again. He was released on July 17th. The practitioners' families went to the Ruichang Police Department in order to ask for their release. Zhou Zuolin, Ruichang Police Department deputy director, and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) director informed them that they were taken to the Jiujiang Police Department. The families went to the Xunyang District Police Department of Jiujiang, however, Wang Bin of the police department's 610 Office told them to go back to the Ruichang Police Department, which he claimed had authority over this case.

The personnel involved in the persecution are:

Li Jiuping, director, Ruichang Police Department: 86-13907928658 (Mobile), 86-792-4222970 (Office)
