At noon on August 21st, the parade started from Powell Street in downtown San Francisco, and arrived at Portsmouth Square in Chinatown. The Divine Land Marching Band performed and walked in the front of the parade, followed by a float showing re-enactments of CCP torture. The last procession was the waist drum team from southern California. Many spectators watched the parade and asked for information.

From 12:30 to 3 pm, a rally was held on Portsmouth Square. Several invited guests spoke from their personal experiences about how the CCP has destroyed Chinese traditional culture and persecuted the Chinese people.

Youzhi Ma from the Northern California Quitting CCP Service Center said that, as of August 7th, 2011, 100 million Chinese people had quit the CCP and its affiliated organisations, a real milestone.

He pointed out, “China has a 5000-year history. The CCP cannot represent China. As stated in Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, the CCP has committed many crimes against the Chinese people. Many people know what the CCP is really like and have quit the Party and its affiliated organisations. I call on more people to learn the facts and quit the CCP.”

Yupeng Wang of the San Francisco branch of the China Democratic Party said in his speech, “The CCP systemically persecutes tens of thousands people in China for their beliefs. It is a miserable thing. As a Chinese, it saddens me deeply.”

“But today I felt happy, because I see so many Chinese people walking down the street, protesting the CCP’s crimes and totalitarian control. I am proud of this group of people. I am proud that 100 million Chinese people have quit the CCP and its affiliated organisations.”

Commentator Fan Wu said in his speech, “The CCP has committed many wrongdoings and crimes. It is a demon. We don’t have money or weapons, but we have people. Peacefully and rationally, we encourage people to withdraw from the CCP to rescue China. When everyone quits the CCP, it will become a empty shell and collapse.”

Zheng Fang, whose legs were crushed by CCP tanks when he was a student protester in Beijing on June 4th, 1989, said, “I have quit the CCP. I learned what the CCP was really like after the June 4th incident. Falun Gong practitioners are great. I hope everyone reads the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. In China, people believe in the CCP’s lies and don’t know many facts. The CCP continues to cover up and distort the facts. Only if the CCP disintegrates can China have a bright future.”

Ian Fletcher, a well-known economist, said that the CCP frequently boasts about its gross national product to justify its control, and many are confused by China’s false economic prospects. He gave the example of Japan, which experienced an economic miracle in the 1950s and 1960s under a democratic system. Economic development, said Fletcher, has nothing to do with dictatorship.

Democracy advocate Yongming Chen told of his personal experience of 12 and a half years in a Chinese prison. When he was forced to work in the Number 4 prison factory in Jiangxi Province, the molten steel was as hot as several thousand degrees Celsius. He saw prison guards push several inmates to the molten steel. He said, “When I was imprisoned, I saw doctors, with the help of prison guards, remove vital organs from inmates who were not yet dead. The CCP is worse than Hitler.”

After his release, he fled to Japan. After the June 4th massacre, he joined a democracy organisation. He learned that China has experienced big changes recently. He said the CCP has not changed. Since the time it assumed power in 1949, the CCP has continued to arrest and kill people. “We know that the CCP has killed several thousand Falun Gong practitioners, though the actual number is hard to know now.” He said Falun Gong benefits everyone.

Mr. Chen said, “The Chinese people have awakened. I believe that I’ll see the day when the CCP collapses.”
