Belgium: Falun Gong Practitioners Write to all Members of Parliament about Preparations to File a Lawsuit Against Jiang Zemin Gent, 13/08/2003 Re: Belgian Falun Gong practitioners prepare a complaint against Jiang Zemin, previous leader of the Chinese communist party
In China however, where Falun Gong became very popular in a very short period of time, Jiang Zemin, the previous leader of the Chinese communist party, decided to outlaw Falun Gong in 1999 and to start a campaign aimed at the destruction of Falun Gong. The large popularity of Falun Gong, the fact that numerous members of the communist party and the Chinese army practised Falun Gong and the personal jealousy and lust for power of Jiang Zemin himself, all lead him to declare Falun Gong as an enemy of the state and to start a ruthless campaign of persecution and destruction against Falun Gong and its practitioners. On the night of July 20 1999, tens of thousands were jailed in the darkness of the night. Now, more then four years later, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is continuing undiminished and hundreds have been killed, thousands have been illegally sentenced and hundreds of thousands have been deported to labour camps. Once it became clear that Falun Gong in China could not be easily destroyed and Falun Gong practitioners all over the world asked for more and more attention to be paid to the inhumane persecution in China, Jiang Zemin also started to aim his attacks towards practitioners outside of China: in Belgium, just like in other European countries and in the United States, Canada and Australia, people are being harassed by the Chinese government, names are being put on blacklists, attempts are being made to restrict freedom of speech and assembly and massive defamation campaigns are being orchestrated to attack all Falun Gong practitioners and to also depict the Belgian Falun Gong practitioners as negative people. The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners has become a worldwide affair, in which direct victims have been made in many countries. A case against Jiang Zemin is not a political statement. It is a case that fits within the original goals of the Belgian law on genocide: bring those who form a threat to humanity and to Belgian citizens to justice. A case against Jiang Zemin is not a case against China. Neither China nor the Chinese government is responsible for the persecution of more then one hundred million Falun Gong practitioners in the world. It is Jiang Zemin who tries to involve a complete nation and the government of that nation in his personal battle against Falun Gong. Finally, a case against Jiang Zemin is not a case to bring Belgium or the Belgian government in a difficult position. It is a case to protect the interests of the Belgian Falun Gong practitioners and of the practitioners all over the world. In this way, the Belgian law on genocide can be used for what it was created by the Belgian authorities for: to protect human rights and to safeguard what is good in this world; to promote Truthfulness, Benevolence and Tolerance. We thank you for the attention that you dedicate to this subject. Respectfully, In name of the Belgian Falun Gong association, [signed]
