DE STANDAARD and DE MORGEN: Justice department screens Chinese delegation

(Two Dutch newspapers)
September 8th & 9th 2001

Brussels - Before the arrival of the Chinese delegation’s meeting with the EU head in our country, the directors of law of the police forces received a request to investigate if there were any complaints against certain members of the delegation, in particular for crimes against humanity.
This has been confirmed by several sources.

According to our information this is the first time that this kind of request has been made to the police. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs didn't want to say if this request for verification came from them.

The presence of the Chinese premier and his delegation has invoked reactions from Chinese opposition circles here and there.
